Install Guide:
Before beginning, let the car cool off. Working on a hot cooling system is never recommended.
Severe burns can result from working on a hot cooling system—always let the car cool off before
servicing the cooling system.

Step 1:
After letting the car cool off (seriously,
let the car cool off), raise the car and
remove the plastic cover behind the
bumper. Place a container under the
radiator stopcock and open the stop-
cock to drain the cooling system.
NOTE:
If at any point a hose will
not come off or go on, a
small amount of silicon
spray can be used to en-
courage the hose.

A little lube goes a long

way.

Step 2:
As the car drains, remove the radia-
tor cowl using a flat tip screwdriver
to remove the plastic pop rivets indi-
cated in Picture 2.

Step 3:
Once the car is fully drained, use vice
grips, pliers, or hose clamp pliers
(recommended) to undo the spring
clamp holding the upper radiator hose
to the cylinder head. Pull the hose off
of the flange. Some leftover coolant
may spill from the flange (you let it cool
off didn’t you?). Be sure to clean this
and any spillage up to prevent un-
wanted poisoning of pets, children, and
wildlife. Dispose of used coolant in ac-
cordance with local regulations.

Step 4:
On the radiator, undo the spring clip
holding the upper radiator hose to the
radiator and remove the hose.
Step 5:
If reusing the stock hose clamps,
transfer the clamps over to the new
radiator hose. If using T-bolt clamps,
place two large clamps on the new
hose.

Push the new hose onto the bungs on

the radiator and the cylinder head en-
suring that the hose sits flush with the
raised portion on the bung (see Figures
5a and 5b).

Move the clamps to the end of the

hoses and tighten them down (if reus-
ing the spring clamps, release tension
on the legs; if using T-bolt clamps, use
a 10mm socket or wrench to tighten).

Check the connections by gently pulling

on the hose. There should be no
movement of the hose whatsoever.
Step 6:
Unbolt the radiator filler neck from the radiator sup-
port (see Figure 6a) using a 10mm socket.

Remove the hose clamp connecting the filler neck

hose to the radiator and remove it from the bung (see
Figure 6b). Be careful removing this clamp, it is possi-
ble to crack the top of the radiator if too much pres-
sure is applied from a tool resting on it.

Remove the hose clamp and hose from the filler neck
(see Figure 6c).

Replace with the new filler neck hose and install

clamps (reuse old clamps or use small T-bolt clamps)
as in Figure 6d. Ensure the hoses are pressed on
fully and clamped down securely.

Reinstall the filler neck.

Step 7:
ck
co From under the car, unclamp the lower radiator hose
op
St from the radiator (located to the right of the stop cock
if looking from the front of the car, see Figure 7a) and
from the engine block (under the intake manifold at
the thermostat housing, see Figure 7b). Unclip the
hose from the hose support and remove it from the
engine and radiator.

Install the new hose in its place and install the clamps
ensuring it is installed securely.

Step 8:
If only installing radiator hoses, installation is com-
plete. Reinstall the radiator cowl and fill the car with
coolant. Run the car at idle until is reaches operating
temperature watching for any leaks as a result from
loose or improperly installed hoses. Turn off the car
and top off the radiator.

If installing oil cooler hoses, please continue to Step 9.

Step 9:
Raise the car and find the oil filter on the passenger side of the
engine block. Sandwiched between the oil filter and the engine
block is a engine oil cooler. Two hoses, an inlet and outlet
(labeled 1 and 2 respectively in Figure 9), come out of it. The
picture to the right shows these outlets on an engine, and where
the hoses run.

Remove both ends of the inlet hose and the one end of the outlet
hose from the oil cooler.

If there are any difficulties

removing these hoses, re-
moving the passenger front
wheel and the wheel well
cover may provide more
access.

Step 10:
Support the engine with a block of wood (to distribute
the load) and a jack on the oil pan (see Figure 10a).
Raise the engine slightly to remove tension on the pas-
senger motor mount. Remove the three 17mm bolts
holding the torque rod and remove the torque rod
(see Figure 10b).

Step 10 (cont’d):
Remove the engine mount and the mount rubber as-
sembly (indicated in Figure 10c) beneath the torque
rod using a 17mm and 19mm socket and extension.
Step 11:
With the mount removed, undo the hose clamp from
the hose end attached to the water pump housing
bung.

Push the new outlet hose onto the bung and tighten
the clamp.

Reinstall the motor mount (installation is opposite of

removal). Tighten all bolts and slowly lower the jack
supporting the engine. Check and tighten all bolts
again.

Step 12:
Back under the car, connect the loose end of the out-
let hose and the inlet hose to the oil cooler. Tighten
all hose clamps and ensure the hoses are secured.
Figure 12 shows the routing for the hoses (hose
clamps are not shown, but are required).

Step 13:
Reinstall everything removed during installation
(passenger wheel well cover, passenger wheel, radia-
tor cowl).

Fill the car with coolant and run the car at idle until it
reaches operating temperature checking for any leaks
as a result of loose or improperly installed hoses.
Turn off the car and top off the radiator.

Installation is complete.
