About This Manual

This manual describes the Forte gamma cameras, collimator exchangers and
tables..
Planned Maintenance
for Forte Camera,
Exchanger and Table
1. Purpose

This document establishes quarterly, semi-annual and annual planned maintenance

procedures for Forte Cameras, Exchangers and Tables.

2. Scope

This document includes check lists of operational tests, mechanical inspections, lubrication
procedures and detector calibrations.

Detailed descriptions are not included in this manual. Where detailed descriptions are
available in other manuals, this document refers you to those descriptions. Not all tests are
described in other manuals. If unfamiliar with undocumented tests, call Field Service
Technical Support.

3. Responsibilities

The Field Service engineer assigned to each customer site is responsible for performing
these procedures. This manual should be retained on-site.

4. Required Equipment and Supplies

• Lubriplate #630-2 (9999-5047)

• Power AC Lub (9999-5044)
• Common tool kit.

5. Procedure

To perform a planned maintenance procedure, use the tables which follow.

After completing any planned maintenance procedure, complete the log on the page 6 of
this procedure.

If you replace any major parts or perform an ECO, complete the logs on pages 6 and 9.

Collimator Exchange Perform a collimator exchange with all

available collimators. Check:
Each collimator collision sensors.
If exchanges do not function correctly, Forte
check gantry and exchanger alignment, Installation
and check/change detector radius values FS Manual
to ensure detector is positioned correct for 9202-0160

E-Stop Tests Verify that all E-stop switches (gantry,

exchanger, table and handcontrol) will stop NA

Mechanical Inspections
Inspection Description of Inspection Insp Freq Reference

Gantry Roll Gear Check for noises and "clunks" during 9202-0162
gantry rotation.

Detector #2 Rotate Check for excessive noise. Ensure you 9202-0162

cannot rotate Detector #2 by hand, nor
move the Detector #2 Rotate Motor by
hand (because of sheared gear box
mounting bolts).

Gantry Cables Remove back cover. Inspect ring cable 9202-0162

casing for broken joints and missing
plastic sections.

Gantry 90/180 Transition Do ten 90/180 transitions while watching 9202-0162

Motdiag. Ensure VGclose and VGopen
sensors are never both high (cam follower
problem). Look for excessive swinging.

Gantry Anchors Verify rear anchor bolts are tight by trying

to insert a 0.002" feeler guage (or piece of
paper) between leveling feet and floor.
Six Months
Gantry Radius Ball Screws Look for broken thrust washers, noisy or
jerky drives; ball screws are not lubricated. 9202-0162

Table Vert. Ball/Acme Screws Look for broken thrust washers, noisy or 9202-0164
jerky drives; ball screws are not lubricated;
Acme lubricant should not be dry/gummy.

Table In/Out Belt Break With a finger, release belt tension on both
Sensors belt break sensors. System should react as
though you pressed an E-stop button.
Table Floor Lock Pins Check for smooth and reliable operation.
Ensure switches are at their maximum
compression when pin is set in cup.
Exchanger Motor & Pivot Arm Check for wear on wheels and pivot arm.

Detector Latch Bars Check for excessive wear.

Uncorrected Intrinsic Flood Acquire a 15 Mct intrinsic flood with:

• flood correction OFF,
• energy correction ON,
• linearity correction ON, and with
• <50 Kcps Tc99m source (~0.5 mCi)

If UFOV uniformity <4.5%, fill out Flood

log on page 10, and proceed to Rotax.

If UFOV uniformity >4.5%, do following

• If Autogain not rerun in above steps,
perform Autogain and retest flood. Six Months
• If uniformity still >4.5%, do Energy
Calibration and retest flood.
• If uniformity still >4.5%, trouble shoot
the detector for problem.
• Regenerate Flood Tables.

Rotax Do Center of Rotation test in 9202-0126

using site’s primary collimator.

If center of rotation is out of spec, ensure

detectors are parallel to each other.

If range is out of spec, check for Gantry

Roll and/or Detector #2 backlash, or other
mechanical looseness.
