Simple Sentence (Kalimat Tunggal)

A simple sentence in grammar has only one main independent clause and no dependent or
subordinate clauses. which means only one subject and one predicate. A simple sentence is also the
shortest possible sentence ,it can have as little as two words.

A simple sentence is also known as a clausal sentence. It may have a modifier besides a subject,
verb, and object. Though it is simple, sometimes it can have compound verbs and compound subjects. It
may or may not use commas but it stays simple in construction.

1 My sister read the magazine.


(Saudara perempuanku membaca majalah.)

2 The manager came late today.


(Manager tersebut datang terlambat hari ini.)

Independent Clause And Compound Element In Simple Sentence

An independent clause consists of one subject, verb, with / without other


components (such as modifiers or complement) to make that sentences have a complete
meaning.

Subject is someone / something (noun or pronoun), which doing an action or experiences a


state and stated in a verb such as an action verb or linking verb.
Contoh Kalimat Simple Sentence Keterangan

I ate  Subject = i
 Ate = verbs

My sister read the magazine.  Subject = my sister


 Verb = read
 (direct) object = the magazine

The manager came late today.  Subject = the manager


 Verb = came
 Adverb = late, today

He is diligent.  Subject = he (pronoun)


 (linking) verb = is
 Adjective = diligent

I was doing physically exercises at this time  Subject =I


yesterday.  Verb = was doing
 (direct) object = physically
exercises
 prepositional phrase = at this time
yesterday
