SUMMARY OF TOPICS

The following changes in requirements to the Standard for Smoke Dampers, UL 555S, are being
proposed:

1. Revision to Long Term Holding Test

STP BALLOTS AND COMMENTS DUE: January 6, 2014

UL’s goal is to have no interest category comprise more than one-third of the STP membership
balance. To improve the current balance for STP 555, UL is looking for participants in the Commercial/
Industrial User, AHJ, and Consumer interest categories. Definitions for these interest categories are
available on the Standards STP Internet site:

http://www.ul.com/global/eng/pages/solutions/standards/developstandards/participation/
interestcategories/

If you are interested in applying for STP 555 membership or are aware of potential candidates for this
STP, please contact the STP Project Manager, Mitchell.Gold@ul.com.

For your convenience in review, proposed additions to existing requirements are shown underlined and
proposed deletions are shown lined-out.

1. Revision to Long Term Holding Test

RATIONALE

Proposal submitted by: Larry Felker, Belimo Americas

At present 32 actuators are required for the long term holding test. This is an unnecessary quantity. Ten
actuators makes a sufficient sample to determine if any failures will occur.

PROPOSAL

15.2.3 A sample set is to consist of 32 10 actuators of the same design family.
