EXERCISE

CHAPTER 2 : FORCE AND MOTION I

SUBTOPIC : 2.6 FORCE
FORM 4

1. Diagram shows a force, F is required to move an object of mass 1000 kg with an acceleration
of 3 m s-2.
a = 3 m s-2

m = 1000 kg F

Diagram 1
(a) Calculate F when :
(i) object is on a smooth surface
(ii) object is on a surface where the frictional force is 200 N

2. Diagram 2 shows a block of mass 20 kg is pulled along the ground by a force, F of 60 N. The
frictional force is 10 N.

Diagram 2

Calculate the acceleration of the block.

3. A car of mass 1200 kg which is travelling at 90 km h-1 comes to a stop in a distance of 50 m

when the brakes are applied. What is the average braking force of the car?
SPM 2016:

Diagram 5.1 shows two cyclists cycling the bicycle and reached the distance shown in 3
seconds. Diagram 5.2 shows only one of the cyclists cycling the bicycle and reached the same
distance in 7 seconds.

(a) Name the force which acted between the bicycle tyre and the road.
_________________________________________________________________ [1 mark]

(b)Observe Diagram 5.1 and Diagram 5.2.

(i) Compare the forces applied by the cyclists that cause the bicycle to move forward.
_________________________________________________________________ [1 mark]

(ii) Compare the time taken to travel the same distance.

__________________________________________________________________[1mark]

(iii) Based on the answer in 5 (b) (ii), compare the acceleration of the bicycle.
_________________________________________________________________[1 mark]

(iv) Relate the forces applied by the cyclists to the acceleration of the bicycle.
__________________________________________________________________ [1mark]

(c) Name the Physics Law involved in 5(b) (iv).

___________________________________________________________________ [1mark]

(d) (i) What happen to the acceleration of bicycle in Diagram 5.1 when both cyclists bend
their bodies forward?
_______________________________________________________________ [1 mark]

(ii) Give one reason for your answer in 5(d)(i).
