these following sentences.
Group 1:
I have the mats with me, and they are
beautiful.
Group 2:
It was a beautiful mat that mother
received as her wedding gift.

b. Presentation

How do you find the activity?

Look at your sentences, how many
ideas are expressed in this sentence?
If you break the sentence into two,
there are 2 complete ideas expressed.
Each group that is a complete idea is
called a clause.

c. Discussion

Now, do you have any idea what

clause is based on the given
sentences?

That’s right! Great answer.

Clause is a closely related group of
words that includes both a subject and
a verb.
These given example is called a Simple
sentence.
There are two kinds of clauses and
what are those?
Now can you distinguish what is the
difference between the two?

Independent clause- can stand alone

Dependent clause- cannot stand alone
even it has a subject and verb because
it does not have a complete thought.

In order to connect these two phrases

we use:
1. Coordinating conjunction
-FANBOYS ( for, and, nor, but, or,
yet, so)
It usually used in compound
sentence
2. Preposition
-on, between, with, of, to, above…
It usually used in complex sentence

Remember:

Independent + independent =
Compound Sentence
Example:
The king’s illness became worse each
day and the queen could neither sleep
nor eat.
Independent + dependent = Complex
Sentence
Example:
The mountain climber came with
knapsacks and tents.

d. Generalization

Let us see if you really understand our

lesson.
The teacher will ask the following
questions.
1. What is the two clauses and define
what is the difference between the
two?
2. When do we used coordinating ( Students will do the task and will present
conjunction? it in front.)
3. How about in preposition what do we
need to remember?

e. Application

into two.
