SWIMMING NEWS
Swimming for all children in Ginkgo, Oak and
Year 5 in Willow will continue after half term on
the following dates:

Please note that all Year 6 children will also
be swimming on the 16th June in preparation
for the School Swimming Gala which they will
be taking part in during Healthy Living Week
on Wednesday 23rd June 2010 .
Just a reminder that all children will need a
swimming kit, which must include a swimming hat
(available from the school office at a cost of
£1.00) in a suitable bag. Boys must wear
swimming trucks, not shorts. Oxfordshire
County Council’s policy does not allow children to
wear goggles. If your child needs to wear
goggles, and you have not already done so, please
return the permission form below. Please
ensure that all watches and earrings are left at
home on swimming days.
Please note that a letter from a parent is
required if a child is to miss a swimming lesson
for any reason. Generally, if a child is well
enough to be at school then they are well enough
to swim.
OPEN FARM SUNDAY

from 2pm to 4.30pm
come and see a working farm - the cows being
milked, the calves and sheep being reared and all
the farm machinery. Ride on a trailer to see the
crops and then have a cup of tea and home made
cake!

We are currently busy planning a funfilled
Healthy Living Week for everyone to try
something new! The week will include a variety
of activities, including Street Dancing, the annual
Swimming Gala and, of course, Sports Day!
Please watch out for the programme of events
which will be sent out after the half term break.
Everyone is welcome to come along and help out
and be part of what will be an exciting week for
the children. ☺

THE GO4IT FUND
The schools in the Burford Partnership have a fund of
money available from the government which has been
provided to help any family who might find it difficult
to pay for activities and clubs that take place outside of
school hours; this might include clubs and organisations
like karate, dance, football, Cubs and Brownies, or any
new activity your child might want to try. It can even be
used to pay part of a holiday course or residential trip.
Help with fees, kit and travel can be arranged very
easily and there are no forms to fill in!
The Go4IT fund is for students eligible for free school
meals (even if these are not currently claimed for) and
“looked after” children. Families in receipt of one of the
benefits listed below may also take advantage of this
subsidy. (Benefits will not be affected in any way by
this funding)
. Do you receive at least one of the following?
• Free school meals for your child
• Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income support
• Child Tax Credit but not Working Tax Credit and an
income of less than £16,040
• Guaranteed Pension Credit (not Savings Credit)
• Income-based Employment Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum
Act 1999.
If you think you may be eligible please let me know. Your
children will have a great opportunity to access a range
of sports, arts and leisure activities that this fund can
pay for. All that’s involved is a chat with the child about
what it is they want to take part in and the school can
do the rest. All activities will be cleared with parents
either on the phone or in person. So start thinking
about what your children would like to be doing outside
of school hours, at the weekends or in the summer
holiday!
REPLY SLIP - Goggles in Swimming

KS2 Ashmolean Visit
“a helper’s view”
On Tuesday I went with KS2 on their trip to
the Ashmolean in support of this term’s
Egyptian topic. The workshop was fascinating;
we saw a temple, looked for hieroglyphs and
handled an original Egyptian artefact. We
visited other parts of the museum in small
groups and the children sketched objects of
interest. The children were all well behaved,
interested, involved and a credit to St
Christopher’s. I really enjoyed myself and
would like to thank Ms Phillips for organising
the trip and letting me come too.
