INTRODUCTION
The world faces some tough energy challenges in the next few
decades, meeting increasing demand with less environmental
impact. The world knows that the oil price has been decreasing
since late 2014. This has influenced oil and gas industries in
cutting their operational and production expenses. They also
suspend the drilling and production operation. As demands on
energy continue to rise, the oil and gas industry is faced with
making critical decisions on how to meet those increasing
demands amidst a downturn in oil prices, massive layoffs, and
budget cuts. As a result of the current oil and gas industry
economic environment, many oil and gas companies have put
on their brakes on investments in new technology. PARVIZ
comes to solve that anxiety with embracing new technologies
aimed to wrest more oil and gas from the ground at a cheaper
cost
BACKGROUND

LOCATION: Gulf of Mexico, USA; 320 kilometres (200 miles) south-

west of New Orleans, Louisiana
BLOCK: Walker Ridge 508
OWNER AND OPERATOR: Royal Dutch Shell 100%
FIELD: Stones field, discovered in 2005
WATER DEPTH: 2,900 metres (9,500 feet):
PRODUCTION: An estimated 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per
day at peak production.
BACKGROUND
The Gulf of Mexico is an ocean basin and a marginal sea of the Atlantic
Ocean, largely surrounded by the North American continent. It is
bounded on the northeast, north and northwest by the Gulf Coast of
the United States, on the southwest and south by Mexico, and on the
southeast by Cuba. The Gulf of Mexico basin is roughly oval and is
approximately 810 nautical miles (1,500 km; 930 mi) wide and
floored by sedimentary rocks and recent sediments.
Stones field is situated in Block 508 in the Walker Ridge area of the
Gulf of Mexico, around 322km off the coast of New Orleans, Louisiana,
US. The ultra-deepwater project lies in a depth of approximately 2,900
m (9,500 feet) and reservoir depth 23,500 ft below sea level. The field
is owned and operated by Royal Dutch Shell. The Stones field is
estimated to hold more than two billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
Production from the field was achieved in September 2016. Stones is
Shell’s second producing field in the Lower Tertiary geologic frontier in
the Gulf of Mexico, following Perdido in 2010.

RIG
STRUCTURE
PARVIZ MAIN STRUCTURE

} Deck
It’s purposes are to serve a drilling
equipment, production, and life
support systems on offshore
platforms.

Column
These columns were made for a variety of purposes,
not only to transfer global load from the deck
structure to the pontoons. It also has the purpose for
the buoyancy of the semi-submersible oil rig.
RIG
STRUCTURE
STRUCTURE FEATURES
Symmetrical Deck
PARVIZ has symmetrical deck to reduce tilt due
to vertical load, balance the structure and gain
higher stability. It can strengthen the structure,
reduce rotation and translation because the
centre of gravity is in the middle. This condition
will reduce the torque that can make the
structure brittle or damaged. Also to distribute
the load evenly on its columns

Stream Line and Flat Base

PARVIZ has streamline pontoon with flat base
to facilitate transit, increase buoyancy, obtain
high stability, and reduce drag force due to
natural loads. This pontoon can obtain higher
mobility, cost saving, and easy to maintain
RIG
STRUCTURE
Honeycomb Structure
The honeycomb structure provides a light weight to the volume ratio of the solid structure. It
will also improve the structure by balancing the stretching and compressive forces in the
structure and making the structure less easily deformed
RIG
MATERIAL
Elastomer Coating
Elastomer Coating is use for the area above the sea water level. Elastomer Coating is a
blend of selected rubber-like Neoprene polymers, fortified with special additives to
form a tough, resilient barrier to corrosion, erosion, chemical attack, ultraviolet rays
and ozone, similar to urethane
Advantages:
• Resistance to weathering (ozone and ultraviolet rays), fungus, marine life, most oils,
incidental impacts (from boats)
• Complete and permanent bonded to metal surface
• Flexible, won’t crack or disband as the member bend, expand, and contract
• Low maintenance cost

Cathodic Protection
Especially for the column and pontoon structure that
submerged underwater where the rust mainly occur
cathodic protection is used. Cathodic protection is a
process that is used to protect materials from
galvanic corrosion using either sacrificial anodes or
an impressed current

Low Alloy Steel

Molybdenum, another alloy to increase the strength and
corrosion resistance of steel is this high-performance
metal.
RIG
STABILITY
Mooring
PARVIZ use semi-taut mooring system because it
is better suited for deep water application. This
system is lighter and cheaper design because it
has shorter mooring lines, use less material, and
require less seafloor space. This system also
makes the mooring line not easily broken
because the mooring line is not completely taut

Dynamic Positioning System

DPS is support the mooring system to
stabilize the structure during operation.
DPS use for maintain the structure
position by using thrusters

Water Ballasting System

To get more stabilize structure, PARVIS use
ballasting system, stabilized by filling or emptying
ballast tanks with seawater. For controlling hull's
draft during operation and mobilization to
increase efficiency
HOISTING
SYSTEM
Hoisting system in Parviz Rig is using hydraulic cylinders instead of the conventional
rig. This is the most optimal rig alternative currently available in the marketplace and
dramatically reduces the “add-on” philosophy of current rig concepts.
The system comes equipped with a fully integrated compensation system and the
concept’s inherent features make it especially effective on ultra-deep water rigs
and well intervention operations with high performance requirements.
This technology is capable of racking double, triple and quadruple stands with hoisting
capacity ranging from 150 to 2000 short tons. With this solution changing gears is
done at the touch of a button from the operator chair. This allows the operator to
change lifting capacity and hoisting velocity in a matter of minutes.

Advantages :
• 20-30% reduction in weight compared
to conventional rig
• Lowered center of gravity (COG)
• Increased vertical deck load (VDL)
capacity
• Reduced rig footprint compared to
conventional rig
• Improved employee safety
• Reduced noise (acoustic noise was
actually introduced in the drillers cabin
on Oseberg East platform rig to remind
the driller when hoisting is ongoing)
• Reduced manning when drilling crews
become familiar with the operations
• Integrated active/passive drill string
compensation.
CIRCULATING
SYSTEM
Continuous Circullating System with the 𝒆 − 𝒄𝒅𝑻𝑴 and 𝒆 − 𝒄𝒅𝑻𝑴
Plus System
Continuous Circullating is the ability to maintain uninterrupted flow of drilling fluid into the well
throughout the process of adding drillpipe joints to (removing these joint from) the drill string. The
𝑒 − 𝑐𝑑𝑇𝑀 and 𝑒 − 𝑐𝑑𝑇𝑀 plus continuous circulation system are used in drilling and tripping
operations, enabling the pumps to continue running while making connections. This keeps the bottomhole
pressure constant during these activities, maintains the same fluid rheology and temperature ,and
ensure that the cuttings are kept moving at all times.
The e-cd tm plus system
The e-cd plus tm system enhances the e-cd process by replacing the manual connection procedure with
an automated system that uses a delivery arm or an overhead lift to attach a tool that clamps onto the e-
cd sub.Once the tool attached , a remote station automatically controls all steps of the side-port
connection and flow diversion.
The e-cd tm System
Used as a standalone system or in conjunction with managed-pressure-drilling (MPD) operations to
enable continuous circulation-which is the ability to maintain uninterrupted flow of drilling fluid to the
well via the drillstring during connections while drilling and tripping out of the hole.

Advantages :
➢ Reduced kick/loss conditions, with constant
equivalent circulating density (ECD) and bottomhole
pressure (BHP)
➢ Reduced loading of solids during pumps off
➢ Reduced stuck-pipe and packoff incidents
➢ Reduced ballooning effects
➢ Extended life of bottomhole assemblies (BHAs) and
avoidance of mud rheology modifications in high-
temperature environments
CIRCULATING
SYSTEM
Mud Cube

The mud cube is a compact, lightweight solids control system that eliminate a range
of equipment such as HVAC,desander, desilter, centrifuge pump, and piping. The
Mudcube uses a combination of high airflow and rotating screen filtration system to
improve separation efficiency, allowing more drilling fluid to be recycled back to the
mud tanks and resulting in dryer cuttings and less waste.

ROTARY
SYSTEM
Autotrak Curve Rotary Steerable System
The AutoTrak™ Curve rotary steerable system provides better drilling economics, exact
wellbore placement, and faster drilling in unconventional plays. It reduces the time on
the well with reliable performance, less risk, and an improved bottom line. The system
eliminates slides and delivers consistent steering and high ROP, even in high stick-slip
environments. Continuous string rotation maximizes overall efficiency by reducing
torque and drag to provide a high-quality wellbore, better hole cleaning, and less
cleanup time.
In one run, it gets smooth curves, straight tangents, and better hole quality for more
effective fracturing operations and higher production rates.
For precise steering in the reservoir, real-time azimuthal gamma ray service delivers
accurate, near-bit measurements. Expandable pads on a slow-rotating sleeve maintain
precise trajectory and allow fluid circulation to carry cuttings out of the hole. Directional
control from the surface maintains your drilling plan
Advantages :
• Reduce well construction costs with unsurpassed hole quality
• Enhance production with exact well placement
• Faster, more reliable performance with optimized drilling
• Smooth wellbore
• Reduce NPT
ROTARY
SplitBlade by Ulterra
SYSTEM
Parviz Rig is equipped with SplitBlade drilling bit. The
innovative design looks different than traditional straight
blade drill bits because it performs differently. The primary
blades are separated after the cone and the outer shoulders
are rotated, creating double barrel hydraulics and freeing up
more area for the junk slot directly. SplitBlade bits are
engineered to keep cutters clean by increasing the maximum
hydraulic dispersal rate. Cuttings are cleared out up to 7
times faster compared to conventional PDC designs.
Advantages :
• Effectively increasing ROP
• Cost Savings by providing increased average footage
• Reduce tripping
• Dependable control for advanced accuracy

TDDirect Casing While Drilling

TDDirect casing-drilling and liner-drilling technology delivers a superior wellbore by casing and
isolating the formation while drilling. Each foot of borehole is drilled and cased off simultaneously,
eliminating the need for separate casing or liner runs. When TS is reached, the borehole is ready for
cementing.
ROTARY
SYSTEM
This simplified drilling process promotes safer
operations by requiring fewer people on the irg
floor and less pipe handling than conventional
drilling. Plus, with casing constantly on bottom,
the potential for NPT due to wellbore instability
is reduced.
TDDirect technology has proven to reduce NPT
resulting from borehole-related problems, such
as sloughing shales, tight holes, damaged
producing zones and stuck pipe.
POWER
Dual Fuel Engines Wartsila 46DF (Prime Mover)
SYSTEM

The energy required in a drilling operation is produced by large machines, known

as the "Prime Mover unit".The power generation process on the rig uses the internal
combustion diesel engine as the main power source or prime mover. On this machine,
heat compression heats the mixture between fuel and air inside the machine. The
Wärtsilä 46DF is a four-stroke dual-fuel engine that can be run on natural gas, heavy
fuel oil (HFO) or marine diesel oil (MDO). The engine can smoothly switch from gas fuel
to HFO/MDO operation and vice versa without loss of power or speed.

Benefits :
• IMO Tier III Compliant
• Lowest gas fuel consumption
• Lowest fuel oil consumption
• Most powerful 4-stroke gas engine on
the market
• Fuel flexibility
• Proven and reliable dual-fuel
technology
• Long overhaul intervals
• Low exhaust gas emissions
• Low gas feed pressure
• Embedded automation system
POWER
Electric Power Transmission
SYSTEM
Electric power commonly used is generated
by diesel power (diesel Electrik). In the
transmission system with electric diesel,
diesel engine used electric power from the
power generator in front of the block. The
Generator generates an electric current,
which is then streamed via the cable to a
"control unit". From the controller unit the
power is forwarded through an additional
cable to the electric motor that is directly
connected to the system of equipment
requiring power.
Advantages :
• More flexibility, especially on placements
• Does not require a connecting chain (belt),
• The shape is more compact and portable.

Bluevault Energy Storage

BlueVault is a hybrid with a diesel-electric power plant using lithium-ion energy storage
solution (ESS). The solution consists of four converter-battery systems for a total maximum
power of six megawatts. The batteries will be charged from the rig’s diesel-electric generators
and used for supplying power during peak load times. They will also serve as a backup to
prevent blackout situations and provide power to the thrusters in the unlikely event of loss of
all running machinery.
The integration of energy storage with the
power supply and distribution system of a
drilling rig represents an important step
towards improving the environmental
sustainability of the offshore oil and gas
industry.
POWER
SYSTEM
Offshore rigs have highly variable power consumption for drilling and dynamic positioning. By
incorporating energy storage, it is possible to reduce the runtime of diesel engines and keep
them operating on an optimized combustion level. This ultimately leads to lower emissions.
The installation of BlueVault will result in an estimated 42 percent reduction in the runtime of
on-platform diesel engines, reducing CO-2 emissions by 15 percent, and NOx emissions by 12
percent – equivalent to annual emissions from approximately 10,000 automobiles.

Monocrystalline Silicon Solar Cells

To increase the availability of energy on the platform, Parviz rig uses solar panels.
Solar panels as renewable energy is the solution and able to lower the cost of the
platform forward. The efficiency of the solar cells used in a photovoltaic system, in
combination with latitude and climate, determines the annual energy output of the
system. For example, a solar panel with 20% efficiency and an area of 1 m2 will produce
200 W at Standard Test Conditions.
Benefits :
•Monocrystalline solar panels have the highest
efficiency rates (15-20%)
•Monocrystalline silicon solar panels are space-
efficient
•Monocrystalline solar panels live the longest
(25 year)
•Tend to perform better than similarly rated
polycrystalline solar panels at low-light
conditions.

Tuned Heave Plate Energy-Harvesting System

A novel tuned heave plate energy-harvesting system (THPEH) is presented for the
motion suppressing and energy harvesting of a semi-submersible platform. This THPEH
system is designed based on the principle of a tuned mass damper (TMD) and is
composed of spring supports, a power take-off system (PTO) and four movable heave
plates. The permanent magnet linear generators (PMLG) are used as the PTO system in
this design.
POWER
SYSTEM
The results of the research show that this THPEH system, with proper parameters,
could significantly reduce the motions of the semi-submersible platform and
generate considerable power under different wave conditions.

• Figure (a) shows the conceptual design of a semi-submersible with the tuned heave plate
system. The THPEH system is composed of four truss-plate structures located under the
columns. The plate below the pontoon is installed deep enough to avoid the wave exciting
force.
• Figure (b) shows an illustration of a truss-plate structure. The permanent magnet linear
generator is used and is placed on the top of the truss tube in the platform pontoon.
• Figure (c) illustrates the connection structure of the heave plate and the truss structure.
The connection only allows the heave plate move along the vertical truss tube. The stator
coil and iron are rigidly connected to the outer tube on the heave plate, and the tube
wrapped by the permanent-magnets extended from the truss structure can move through
the stator and the outer tube on the plate. This PMLG can harvest the related motion
energy into electrical power. The spring support is placed between the truss tube and the
heave plate, which determines the natural period of the THPEH system.
POWER
SYSTEM
Wind Power
Wind power is a clean energy
source that we can rely on for the
long-term future. A wind turbine
creates reliable, cost-effective,
pollution free energy. It is
affordable, clean and sustainable.
Because wind is a source of energy
which is non-polluting and
renewable, the turbines create
power without using fossil fuels.
That is, without producing greenhouse gases or radioactive or toxic waste. On average wind
towers in residential settings are about 20m high. A new study by Berkeley Lab suggests that wind
turbines have steadily grown over the years, from an average hub height of 18 meters in the
1980s to an average of 82 meters in 2015. Power generation has also grown, from an average of
0.1 MW in the 1980s to 2 MW today.
DRILLING
FEATURES
Managed Pressure Drilling by Weatherford
Manage pressure drilling (MPD) provides an active approach to well control.
Unlike passive control methods, MPD operations use a closed-loop system
that helps to determine the downhole pressure limit and manage the annular
pressure profile accordingly. As a result, you can enhance primary well
control, verify downhole barriers in real time, and even automatically react to
influxes and losses.
Features : Advantages :
•Minimization of kick and mud loss • Reduce NPT
•Reduce ECD •Reduce risk of stuck pipe
•Navigate narrow mud weight windows •Real-Time measurement and
•Reduce Formation Damage analysis of flow and pressure data
•Early kick and loss detection
•Improved hole stability
DRILLING
Emergency Disconnect Sequence
FEATURES
In a case where a DP rig has lost station keeping ability, the EDS is a one button system
that allows the wellbore to be secured by closing the shear rams. The hydraulic functions
to the lower BOP are then vented and the LMRP is separated from the lower BOP by
unlatching the connector. An over‐pull is preset on the riser tensioners and the LMRP
lifts from the lower BOP. A riser recoil system prevents a sling shot effect. After the EDS
button is activated, the sequence takes about 55 seconds maximum.

Mark IV Subsea MUX BOP Control System

The Mark IV high-availability subsea BOP control system – featuring an industry-first
three-POD design – improves operational availability of the drilling system through
redundancy and improves reliability through simplified POD design. Conventional
subsea BOP control systems use a two-POD design, providing a single spare if the
primary control POD becomes unavailable. The Mark IV-HA control system system’s
third POD provides additional redundancy, which eliminates the need to pull the stack
if one POD fails. It can also improve the subsea control system’s availability to as much
as 98%, and reduce the likelihood of a POD-related stack pull by up to 73%.

The Mark IV-HA control system simplified design increased reliability and functionality
in a smaller footprint. Designed with 50% fewer tubing connections, the potential for
leak paths is reduced, and the addition of redundant solenoid pilot regulators means
they are no longer a single point of failure within the POD.
DRILLING
FEATURES
Each POD has 33% more available functions to accommodate eight-cavity stacks.
The new POD is also designed with pressure-compensated pilot accumulators that
adjust automatically for water depth. This feature prevents the chance of human
failure and reduces maintenance costs.
The Mark IV-HA control system is 26% smaller than its predecessor, and weighs
one-third less than competitors’ control PODs.

Advantages :
•Three-POD option, each with 160
functions to accommodate eight-cavity
stacks
•Reduction of 50% in internal tubing to
reduce leak paths
•Sub-plate-mounted valves for improved
reliability
•Tungsten carbide seals on small valves
for improved reliability
