 Fowler Position
Meaning : Fowler position is an half sitting position or sitting, where the head of the bed
is higher or raised (90o). This position is performed to maintain comfort and facilitate the
patient’s respiratory function.
Purpose : 1. Reduce the problem caused by immobilization.
2. Increse the sense of comfort.
3. Increase the diaphragm to increased lung expansion.
4. Reducing the possibility of pressure on the body caused by the settled
position.
Indication : 1. Patients with respiratory problems.
2. aiammobilized patients.
Tools and Materials :
1. Bed
2. Small Pillow
3. Rolls of Towel
4. Foot Pads
5. Handscoon (if necessery)

PRE-INTERACTION STAGE
Check the nursing records and medical records.
View patient needs.
Prepare the eqiupment.
Review the inspiration and validation also exploration
of patient’s feelings.
ORIENTATION STAGE
Greet and call the patient with the preferred name
Ask patient’s complaints and review the specific
symptoms that exist in the patient.
Explain to the patient about the procedure and the
purpose of the action will be given. Give the patiet and
family a chance to ask before the action begins.
Ask patient approval before action begins.
WORK STAGE
Wash hands.
Ask the patient to sit.
Give backrest or pillow.
Set the bed for the fowler position (90o).
Recommend the patient to keep lying half-sitting.
TERMINATION STAGE
Tidy the equipment.
Observe the patient response after we give action.
Wash hands.
Write the result and actions.
