1. Reading for main ideas

Read the text Cloud Computing, available at SENA Library’s databases by
following the link below. To access the library, just login with your ID number.

Based on the previous reading, write the required information on the chart below.

Topic: Cloud Computing

The information and programs are store don the Internet

It can be used by individuals (single people) or companies

Is a way of sharing It is used to test new computer programs, may include

i information and
music, photos, and files for school or work
programs betwen
computers

You can may also choose private clouds instead of public

clouds.

Allows to offer computing services through a network

2. Writing a summary

Now, use the information related to the main idea you already identified and the
supporting details you extracted from the passage, to write a summary of the text
Cloud Computing. Use the following template to guide your writing process.
Remember that supporting details can be used to make key points in your
summary.

⇒ Summary Information

Briefly state the main idea or thesis presented in this article:

Cloud computing, its background, history, benefits, stages, uses and who can
access it.

Summarize the most important information, ideas, facts, etc. presented in

this article:
1. Cloud computing is a way of sharing information and programs between
computers.
2. Information can be shared or stored either between people or companies
example: mail.
3. In the 1970s and 1980s, networking was difficult. Sharing information between
computers was slow. It also cost a lot of money.
4. In the 1990s, many people started using the Internet and it was a quick and
easy way to connect computers on a network to share information.
5. In the 2000s, people used that idea to create cloud computing. They used the
word "cloud" to refer to the Internet.
6. It is used to test new computer programs, may include music, photos, and files
for school or work
7. It can be used by individuals (single people) or companies
8. Companies do not have to buy programs or hire people to install and repair
them.
9. Hybrid clouds are another option. They are a mixture of private and public
information

Summary

Write the final version of your summary here.

Cloud computing

It is a network whose purpose is to give great benefits not only to people, but also to
companies because I allow information and programs to be shared between computers
without the need for hardware or software. Currently very important for companies
because it allows you to reduce costs, now not only buy but also rent; With this benefit,
he agrees to have new programs and use the cloud network to store on the contrary,
buying the programs changed often and this generated many costs.
In previous years, some contribution made by some companies that formed some
application service providers (ASP) should be highlighted as they allowed users to
share and rent programs. By 2008 people / companies used “Cloud computing” to store
information such as music, videos or files for types of work.
An important point in the topic is virtualization, essential in optimal development and is
mainly referred to the platform issue. It can be said that virtualization is an abstraction
of technological resources where one server can be treated like many servers; or in
another way thanks to cloud computing, which allows many servers to be treated as
one. Currently, any company that wants to offer cloud services is free to do so, but the
situation will change dramatically in about ten years. Suppliers will have to follow rules
if they want to offer their services.
