One cannot fully comprehend how objects in motion are relevant without first

understanding Newton’s law of motion. The laws are important because we apply them in our

daily lives in almost doing anything. They guide us on how we sit, get down from the stairs, how

the apple from the tree, how cars accelerate and perhaps in everything else.

It is not always apparent how we apply these laws in our lives. From the typical day of a

school child where they wake up in the morning to get ready for school, they need to be apt with

their daily procedures. For example, the shape and size of their toothpaste tube, the way to use it

and what are the components of its contents (Kolers et al. 2014). Therefore, Newton’s laws cover

generally all aspects of our lives, but in order to practically apply them to solve a particular

problem, one has to specifically know what type of force is involved, whether it is tension,

friction, and/or gravity.

A good practical example of the Newton’s laws of motion involves motor vehicles. For a

vehicle to get into a locomotive state, there has to be friction between the ground and the tires.

When the wheels begin spinning, the exert a force to the ground that in turn causes friction that

allow the car to move (Kolers et al. 2014). Therefore, by applying Newton’s law of friction in

such a case, one is able to comprehend the importance of having good tires that exert the greatest

friction. Without friction, one could easily skid while driving and cause a fatal accident.

Another application of motion that is of uttermost importance to us is in sports. In almost

all kinds of sports, there has to be some kind of movement. In fact, some sports are

predominantly based on movement such as racing (Knudson, 2003). A quarterback in the game

of American football has to know the exact amount of force to exert on a football so that it gets

to the right wide receiver in time for a touchdown. On the other hand, in the game of soccer,

midfielders must be apt and quick to kick the balk to the strikers at an appropriate velocity so

that they can easily score a goal.

Perhaps the most important use of locomotion in our daily lives is when we are running

for our lives. The pituitary glands in our brains are programmed in such a way that when one is

faced with danger it releases a hormone known as adrenaline which causes the pancreas to

release huge loads of glucose to the blood at a go (Rosenhahn et al. 2008). This in turn gives us a

sudden energy burst that when applied to our locomotion can get someone running very fast

without getting fatigued quickly.

Motion has also contributed to shaping the world that we live in today. Weapon engineers

from the dawn of time have always strived to create the deadliest weapons and one of the aspects

of a deadly weapon is fast motion (Rosenhahn et al. 2008). These weapons have in turn been

used in wars on the competition or resources and contributed to the displacement of many. The

entities that had the fastest weapons, such as missiles and bullets, always won the wars. So

motion has contributed to the world we live in right now.

Finally, it is important to understand the way motion works as it will help us solve

important issues in society. Everything we do, from our bodily metabolisms to those of other

organisms, is embedded in motion. Therefore, in the end it is correct to say that our lives depend

on motion for us to live.
