6. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

6.1 Steps prior to site visit

6.1.1 Backup BTS & TRS configuration from eNB (FSME/FSMF)

Connect to eNB running on FSME or FSMF hardware with the corresponding BTS Site Manager
version. Backup its commissioning files for both BTS and TRS.

Recommendation

Make Snapshot and save it to local directory.

6.1.2 Plan cell sets and RF connections to ABIA modules

Steps to be followed:
1. Calculate number and type of cell sets using table on next page.
2. Add required number of ABIA modules into AirScale AMIA case.
3. Plan and note down RF connections to ABIA modules.

FSME example:

Configuration to be migrated is:

• FSME configured with 3 cells.
• Each cell is 20MHz and 2Tx/2Rx.
• There is one RFM and is connected with two optical cables

Calculations are as follows:

• Calculate number and type of cell sets
o 1x basic cell set is needed which requires ½ (half) ABIA capacity.
• Add ABIA capacity modules required for target eNB configuration
o Single ABIA module is required.
• Plan RF modules connections to ABIA modules
o RFM will be connected to first two ports of ABIA.

FSMF example:

Configuration to be migrated is:

• FSMF + 2x FBBC is configured with 8 cells.
• Each cell is 20MHz and 2Tx/2Rx.
• There are two RFM and two RRH:
o each RFM has 3 cells and is connected with two optical cables
o each RRH has 1 cell and is connected with one optical cable

Calculations are as follows:
• Calculate number and type of cell sets
o 3x basic cell sets are needed
• Add ABIA capacity modules required for target eNB configuration
o Two ABIA modules are required.
• Plan RF modules connections to ABIA modules
o Single ABIA has 6 RF ports, although it suits the demand:
▪ 2x RFMs each with two cables,
▪ 2x RRH each with single cable
o It is not possible to configure more than six 20MHz cells on single ABIA module.
Two cells on RRHs, form third basic cell set and therefore these RRHs must be
connected to the 2nd ABIA module.

6.1.3 Convert configuration file for AirScale HW

First part of conversion involves manual file modifications. Please open, previously saved
commissioning file and edit the following:

1) Search for object MRBTS-X/SMOD-1. Change parameters:

prodCode & prodCodePlanned  473095A

2) Delete all MRBTS-X/BBMOD-X objects in case FSMF is equipped with extension module(s).

3) Add single or multiple BBMOD objects (up to three) from template below, matching number of
installed ABIA modules. Change identifiers marked in red according to MRBTS id and ABIA
number (numbering order is bottom/up direction inside AMIA).

<managedObject class="BBMOD" distName="MRBTS-X/BBMOD-1"

operation="create" version="FL16A">

473096A.102

473096A.102

ABIA AirScale Capacity

L1111111111

true

1

1

</managedObject>

4) Search for MRBTS-X/RMOD-X objects. Change the following parameters in each RMOD object:

sModId – if such parameter exist, change its name to bbModId

bbModId – change value according to ABIAs Id where RM is connected
linkId – change value according to RF port number from 1 to 6

5) Search for parameter actFlexBbUsage and change it to “false” (applies for FL16A FSMF)

6) Search for parameter unitTypeExpected and change it to “FSM” (applies to FSME only)

7) Optional - if LNCELL objects have IRFIM MOCs and SIB-5 configured, make additional check if
EUTRA downlink frequency is correct in parameter – EUTRA frequency value (dlCarFrqEut).

8) Optional – in case of RF Sharing configuration link list (parameter linkList) should be removed
from MRBTS-X/SMOD-1 object as it doesn’t contain RF interfaces anymore. It needs to be
created under each MRBTS-X/BBMOD-X object. List will contain 6 items (linkId from 1 to 6) for
every ABIA RF port. Parameters linkSpeed and radioMaster should match new AirScale
configuration.

Second part of conversion is done using BTSSM application. Please open BTSSM and follow below
steps:

1) Press “Create File” button, select version corresponding to AirScale software and press “Create”

2) Mark both BTS and TRS and select “Create file from existing commissioning file”. Select edited
configuration file.

3) In case of FSMF FL16A migration, no errors should be returned.

In case of FSME FL15A configuration file - two notifications (separate for BTS and TRS) about the
need of converting configuration file are expected and should be accepted.

4) Using “Next” button navigate to “Physical Layer Configuration” page. Select ethernet interface
to be used as transport. Set “speed and duplex” accordingly based on CSR type (Cisco requires
1000Mbps full duplex, while ALU requires auto detect).

In this example the Ethernet interface EIF5 will be used as transport. This port is located directly
above LMP port.

5) Navigate to the last page and save converted commissioning file.

6.1.4 AirScale SW upgrade

This step is not mandatory as software update can be handled by NetAct via Plug & Play procedure.
However if done prior to site visit, it reduces time needed for site to go on-air.
Each AirScale delivered from factory should have FDSW installed. Upgrade to FL16A AirScale P8
delivery (or later) is recommended. Please follow standard update procedure using BTSSM
connection.

6.2 Optional steps prior to the visit

6.2.1 TRS commissioning

It is possible to load complete TRS configuration into AirScale before installation onsite. BTS
commissioning will not be possible, because of no radio modules connected. It is an expected
behavior.

6.2.2 BTS certificate upload preparations

If CMP/CA server is used in operator network and “Reference number” and “pre-shared” key
parameter are mandatory for certificate enrolment then save them in advance. Otherwise, if manual
BTS certificate upload is planned onsite then save it on your laptop.

6.3 Steps to execute during site visit

6.3.1 AirScale installation in rack and cabling

Connect all cables (power, RF, synchronization, LMP, backhaul and EAC). Power up AirScale and verify
that connectivity over LMP port is working. Check if LEDs of ASIA and ABIA modules are on.

Important note

If you are planning to have two separate eNBs in single AirScale which will be connected to separate
power supply, additional step is required. It is needed to remove orange metal part accessible after
removing AMIAs rear panel. Procedure is in detail described in Customer Documentation - „Nokia
AirScale BTS Indoor Quick Guide” page 16.

6.3.2 Verification of all detected radio modules – update SW on radio modules

Verify that LEDs under each connected RF port are green. Using BTSSM check if all radio modules
were discovered on correct RF port and correct ABIA module.

Alarms from radio modules - “Incompatible SW version” are expected. Once all are detected, trigger
sw update once more. Software will be loaded on all connected radios.

Note

Wait for all the radio units to show up in site manager before proceeding with site commissioning.

6.3.3 Upload converted configuration file to AirScale

In case Plug & Play procedure is used, converted configuration file should be uploaded into NetAct.
Once AirScale is powered up it will start auto connection and auto configuration procedures.
Software together with BTS and TRS commissioning files will be automatically pushed to AirScale
eNB.

When plug & play is not used, and commissioning is done via BTSSM, disable “Auto connection” and
“Auto configuration” mode once connected to AirScale eNB via LMP port. Follow below steps to load
commissioning file.

1) Press “Commissioning” button and:

a) mark both BTS and TRS or only BTS (if TRS was commissioned as preparation prior to site
visit)
b) select “Planned” commissioning type
c) choose configuration file converted in previous steps and click Next
No errors should be returned.

6.4 Optional steps during the visit

Further steps are optional and can be skipped when operator BTS certificates are not used or eNBs
are configured to download them automatically from CMP/CA server.

6.4.1 Install BTS certificate.

1) Go to “Configuration > Certificate Management”

2) Under “Install certificate” section choose BTS trust chain and “Browse”. Next point to the
certificate file (in .p12 format). If needed enter the Password and confirm with Apply button.

3) After the Password is verified, certificate details will be displayed on the right side. Use Open
button.

4) Finally, using “Send” button, install certificate. Wait until certificates are sent to eNB and verify if
they were successfully installed. “Certificate installing completed” message should be displayed
as well as the details of newly installed BTS and CA certificate.

5) Close “Certificate Management” window.
