The usefulness of computers

Computers are one of the greatest inventions humanity has ever seen. It is the most
interesting product of science and technology that has made our lives so easier.
Computers are becoming omnipresent as we can find computers everywhere from
homes, schools, colleges, offices, laboratories to libraries, museums and even
hospitals.
From a personal standpoint, computers are used by each of us, together with the
Internet, for personal reasons such as sending emails, watching movies or playing
video games. In this way people can easily keep in touch with others and make new
acquaintances. There are people who oppose saying that computers are not good
because of the confinement to their screens.
From a scientific standpoint, much of today’s research in medicine, physics etc are
impossible without computers. However, many people consider that too much money
and time are spent on developing computers, even though they help the scientific
field.
From an economic standpoint, computers can do the multiple tasks in order to help
people, for example  something as simple as computation: mathematical equations,
spreadsheets and the alike. This is useful for recording and storing economic
information, especially when it pertains to a small group (such as a business) or an
individual. When you pull the scope back to the whole of the economy, a computer
(connected to the internet) can be utilized in research of trends, prices, sales, and
more. It can even be used to set up the transactions. Nevertheless, a negative
consequence of the extensive use of computers is that the number of unemployees
increased, because workers are replaced by artificial intelligence.
Nowadays, the computers are more and more used by children for school. From an
educational standpoint, computers can provide easy acces to a wealth of useful
information. Yet, because children are connected to the virtual world, which seems
more attractive to them, this keeps them from reading or studying.
From an artistic standpoint, generated music and graphics open new artistic
horizons. However, computerised art can become mechanical and impersonal and this
is considered by others as not being truly artistic.
To sum up, while people may ask themselves whether we have become too
dependent on technology or not, there is no denying the fact that computers have
definitely improved our life for the good. To thrive in today’s times we need to make
the most of changing faces of technology. Controlled progress could help in
contributing to a better life which can also suit the sustainable model.
