Security administration TopSolid'Design - PDM Administration

Security administration
This chapter shows you how to administrate the PDM security.
For a given user, there are three different states (Granted/Denied/Unspecified) for each of the rights
(Create/Modify/Read/…).
The Denied and Unspecified are equivalent when the security of the user and the security of the group to which he
belongs are not defined at the same time. Indeed, the security of a user takes priority over the security of a group
of users, except for unspecified rights.

Concepts addressed:
- Security administration

System security administration

 Click the TopSolid icon and select PDM > Security.

10 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design - PDM Administration Security administration

 In the window that opens, click the icon.

Note: If you assign the default security, it will be applied to all new projects.

Missler Software 11

Note:
- My Templates: User-related templates (be careful, they are only visible by the administrator in this case).
- Company Templates: These templates can be used by all TopSolid users.

 Open the Stapler project.
 Right-click on the project name and select Security.

Note: The project security is not inherited.

The security on the 00 Design Department / 10 Production
Engineering Department / 20 Common folders is obtained
when these folders are created through the system security of
the default folders.

 Click to confirm.

 Right-click on the 00 Design Department folder and select Security.

Note: Make sure you check the project into the vault to share data.

Important: The user's security has priority over the group's security when it is defined. The advantage of this
behavior is the possibility of managing exceptions on users.

See TopSolid’Design 7 Online Help, Definition of Permissions section, for differences between rights.

20 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design - PDM Administration Life cycle administration

Life cycle administration

In this chapter you will learn how to administrate the life cycle.
This operation will define the sub-states of the life cycles. The current states are: Design, Validated, Obsolete and
Deleted. The life cycle can be used manually from the Project tree using the context menu (Life Cycle) on the
document.

Concepts addressed:
- Creating the sub-states of the life cycles:
o DD – Pending validation for production
o DD – In production
o DD – Assembly
o PED – Pending validation for part to be programmed
o PED – Programming

A document's life cycle is described below:

TopSolid'Design - PDM Administration Workflow administration

Workflow administration
Here you will see how to administrate the Workflow.
This operation lets you define a document state change cycle based on the life cycle (Workflow) and by respecting
the internal process of the company. These state changes can be submitted for approval.

Concepts addressed:
- Creating the Workflow definition
- Creating the approvals
- Creating the notifications

When some users only want to connect to the server to view the project contents or create non-TopSolid
documents (for example text, spreadsheet or image documents), it is possible to use a limited - and, consequently,
economical - version of TopSolid.

Concepts addressed:
- Logging onto TopSolid PDM
- Opening a project
- Opening a document
- Measures

 Launch TopSolid'Pdm Explorer.

 Log on with a user account.

 From the Project manager, double-click on the Stapler project to open it.
 From this project, double-click on the 00 Design Department folder to open it and repeat the thing to open

TopSolid'Update TopSolid'Design - PDM Administration

TopSolid'Update
TopSolid'Update allows you to search for TopSolid updates and to download them locally and/or to install them.
Three update modes are available:
- Check for updates on the Internet
- Server mode
- Client mode

Check for updates on the Internet

This mode is for workstations that are not on the company network. This option is suitable for the local PDM (default
installation).

48 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design - PDM Administration TopSolid'Update

Server mode
This mode downloads all existing updates into a shared local directory. It must be used with network machines
configured in Client mode.
This option is recommended when there are several TopSolid/TopSolid'Pdm Explorer user workstations.

Missler Software 49
TopSolid'Update TopSolid'Design - PDM Administration

Client mode
This mode searches for updates in the directory of the download server. It must be used with network machines
configured in Server mode.
This option is recommended when there are several TopSolid/TopSolid'Pdm Explorer user workstations.
