Oscillometry (Luisa)

Impulse oscillometry (IOS) is a respiratory function test that allows you to evaluate
the impedance of the respiratory system at different oscillation frequencies.
Furthermore, this test evaluates respiratory mechanics through the application of
small pressure pulses generated by a horn, which produces fluctuations in flow at a
certain frequency that overlap with the natural pattern of respiratory flow. (Luisa)

The resulting changes are captured by a manometer and a pneumotachograph

determined on subsequent analysis.3 The oscillation frequencies at which the
functional parameters are analyzed are 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 Hertz (Hz).(cami)

Calibration or calibration verification of  oscillometer

1.Calibration:
The oscillometer must be calibrated or verified in daily calibration for volume,
before
to perform the test.

2.Syringe
Use a 3.00 L syringe with accuracy ± 0.5% of absolute volume (15 mL).

3.Connection
Ensure a firm and tight connection between the syringe and oscillometer.especially
when do not use the original syringe of the equipment. (cami)

4.Special Programs
Most current oscillometers have special menus in the program to perform and store
the calibration data.

5.Verification Of Calibration
For verification of pressure calibration the rear grid (resistor) must be closed, place
the resistance administered by the manufacturer and perform a conventional
oscillometry (Feli)

Patient preparation for the test  (Feli)

1.Presentation
The technician who performs the test receives and introduces himself  with the
patient.

2.Order verification
The medical request should be reviewed and the full name and registration
number.

3. Explain
The technician explains to the patient the purpose of the test.

Consider  (Luisa)

 In patients who cannot keep from  foot or suffer from rib cage deformity, it
you can use the arm extension as a   height estimation.
 The test should be performed with the subject sitting. Chairs without wheels
and with support should be used for arms.

Oscillometry  maneuver (Eli)

You will be sitting during the test.

1. A nose clip will be placed to avoid Breathe for it.

2. A person (health staff) or himself patient will hold his cheeks.
3. A mouthpiece with a filter will be placed in your mouth, in which he
must not put his tongue, nor bite it,  you must seal your lips around it
and breathe calmly.
4. It will show you the noise made by the device every time you
measure R, and you will be explained that you shouldn't be scared
and you
should keep breathing calmly.

     Consider  (Luisa)

 The morphology of the curves must be free of artifacts: cough, glottic

closure, agitated breathing.
 The patient must have at least four breaths in tidal volume and on a
regular basis.
