Dynamic Voltage Restorer (Simulation)

PARTS OF THE COMPENSATOR

DC ENERGY STORAGE DEVICE

 This component supplies real power needed for the process for voltage sag .
Electrical energy storage devices such as capacitors and batteries , DC to AC
conversion or inversion process are needed to deliver power . The stored energy is
retransformed to electrical energy because it’s difficult to store and convert to other
forms of energy . Energy storage devices are broken down to two types management
devices and power quality storage devices . For this project , we used a power
quality storage device which is a battery . Batteries convert chemical energy to
electrical energy during discharge time and is classified as secondary storage device .
Their operating mechanisms rely on their cycle loading and releasing of charges .

VOLTAGE SOURCE INVERTER ( VSI )

 Basically , this part of the component functions to convert DC voltage supply by

energy storage device to AC device . Then , the converted voltage is boosted
through the injection transformer to be used as compensated voltage. In a full bridge
topology , 4 switches are required and arranged in a such a way the difference
between two branches of switching converters generates the output voltage . The
table drafted below shows states and output voltage depending on which switches
are closed . The switches used in this inverter circuit are IGBTs .

PASSIVE FILTER

 By consisting with only an inductor and capacitor and placed on either side of the
low voltage or high voltage side of the transformer , the filter any harmonics that
might pass through the injection transformer. Also this would lessen the stress being
applied to the transformer that would affect the performance .
VOLTAGE INJECTION TRANSFORMER

 The transformer acts as boosting the voltage that had been generated by the VSI to
desired level . The lower voltage side is coupled to the power electronic circuit of the
DVR . Meanwhile , the higher voltage side is latched to the distribution line in series .
And since this system only has one phase , only one transformer is being utilized
here .

PROPOSED COMPENSATION TECHNIQUE

 The proposed method is a discrete-PWM based controller that would modify the
phase angle of fault voltage . The process begins with receiving an error signal when
the rms voltage from fault is compared with reference voltage from phase-locked
loop circuit using LM565 . Then the controller would analyze the error and would
trigger required phase angle to rectify the error . The sinusoidal signal or dubbed as
Vcontrol would be phase modulated by means of delta . Then this signal would be
compared with a triangular signal in order to create switching signals for the VSC
valves .
