‘A study on Catchment Area Analysis and effectiveness of retail


operations and Customer service management’

DESCRIPTION OF SIP
The Project is focused on Catchment analysis of Big Bazaar for
knowing its loyal customers and Population Area.As an intern I have
given the task to study the demographics, understand the catchment
area and suggest the ways to increase customers from the area of
catchment. During the internship I need to gather the customers
feedbacks so as to know the loopholes of the store and the areas
where more efforts need to be put in, drafting the marketing strategies
at BTL level that will help in gaining new customers and retaining the
existing ones.
The whole project is primarily focused on increasing the sales by
getting more customers and also conveying the USP of the store to the
customers.In the whole course of internship I have to do the following
tasks:-
*Interact and gather feedback of the customers.
* Understanding the competitors by visiting their stores and
identifying their strategies.
*Conducting the marketing events (In-store and in nearby vicinity) to
attract and engage the customers.
And to work under all the departments of the store,understand the
industry and also the requirement of marketing in the different
departments.The Study plays a major role for the withstanding of
business in the market at long run.
OBJECTIVE OF SIP
*To know the effective Strategies or promotional activities which
influence customers to Purchase products of Big Bazaar.
*To check whether Big Bazaar is getting its customers from the target
locations or not. (Catchment Analysis).
*Identifying the action plan for improving the customers walk-in.

METHODOLOGY
*Mapping of the catchment area.
*Analyzing the catchment area dynamics.
i.e, Type of people living,
Retailing environment, socio-demographics, Infrastructure,
competitor Analysis, Residential and workforce Population.
*Developing a Zone based marketing calendar
*Collecting the Primary sample of customers by taking customers
feedback at Store.
*Visiting the competitor's stores and identifying and understanding
their business strategies.

*Conducting the promotional activities and events.

SCHEDULE
The total schedule for the internship is 14 weeks (17th feb to 22nd
May) Interim report submission(15th-18thApril 2020)will be submitted
on 9th April 2020 and Final report submission (3rd-7th June 2020)will
be submitted by 18th May 2020.Talking about my work schedule. The
store manager (company guide) has divided this internship period of
in the following way :-
1st month of the internship -I have to understand the catchment area
and the competitors strategies.
2nd month of the internship- I have to work under the different
department heads of the retail store like
Fashion,Staple,electronics,Home,Customer service department so as
to get the hands over how the retail store works .
3rd month of the internship- I have to make promotional plans for the
company and have to submit the presentation of the same to the head.
This is the total internship schedule.

LIMITATIONS
*Macro-Economic factors affects the Retail industry to a large extent.
*Customer perceptions keep on varying so the marketing strategies
drafted may fail.
*The catchment analysis done through sampling may not hold true
due to customers unwillingness to response.
*The study of customer dynamics includes many other factors too
which are not considered during this study.
