Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description 
Code. Exception: If the repair is done after 
failure, use "PI10037" as the Part Number, "7751" 
as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim 
Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description 
Code. 

NOTE: Although this Program is to be administered 
as described above on the Affected Product, parts 
should be removed from parts stock as soon as 
possible.

PROBLEM
The secondary steering pump start relay may stick open or closed, 
and need to be replaced on certain 938G, 950G, 962G, 966G, 972G 
Wheel Loaders and IT38G Integrated Toolcarriers. If relay sticks 
open, it could result in total loss of control of machine 
steering in case pressure drops in primary steering system. If 
relay sticks closed the secondary steering pump and motor will 
keep running, resulting in damage to the system.

Remove all 1836970 Switches with date codes of G0, H0, J0 or K0 
from parts stock. 

***** Affected Product *****

Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, Machine Systems - 
Secondary Steering Pump and Electrical Motor section of the 
service manual. Check date code marking on the rear face of the 
relay. If date code is G0, H0, J0 or K0, relay must be replaced. 
If date code is different from G0, H0, J0 and K0, the relay is 
okay and does not need to be replaced. 

OWNER NOTIFICATION
U.S. and Canadian owners will receive the attached Owner 
Notification.

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner: 

The secondary steering pump start relay may stick open or closed, 
and need to be replaced on certain 938G, 950G, 962G, 966G, 972G 
Wheel Loaders and IT38G Integrated Toolcarriers. If relay sticks 
open, it could result in total loss of control of machine 
steering in case pressure drops in primary steering system. If 
relay sticks closed the secondary steering pump and motor will 
keep running, resulting in damage to the system. A new start 
switch needs to be installed on the products listed below. 

Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule 
this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to 
complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service 
Letter dated January 26, 2001 when scheduling this service. You 
will not be charged for the service performed.
