Dear Editor:

First, I´m very sad about the terrible earthquake in Mexico, many people suffer from
this type of natural disaster. Therefore, I believe that we must be prepared for any
disaster. So, I´m going to write what we can do before, during and after an earthquake.

Before, people should have a backpack with a flashlight, radio, non-perishable food,
water, batteries and a first aid kit ready, as they can help them in case the earthquake
is very destructive. In addition, the flashlight can be very helpful if the earthquake
occurs at night, food can save us if there is a famine because of the earthquake and
finally the first aid kit can help us heal minor injuries.

During, People should stay calm, they shouldn't run away, because they can get
hurt. They should be located in safe areas of the house and if an object is collapsing,
they should be covered under a sturdy table or desk. If they can get out, they must
follow evacuation routes and locate a safe place to stay until the earthquake finishes.
In addition, they must use the radio to know the situation and follow the
recommendations given.

After, People should check the condition of their houses before re-entering and if
there are cracks or sloping walls, they should not enter their houses. If there are
injured people, they should help and if possible, provide first aid until the doctors
arrive.

Well, this is my advice, I hope it can help you and the people can take it into
account. These events wouldn’t be so catastrophic if we all are prepared to face them.

Goodbye.

Diana
