Replace internal SATA Drive or Reinstall firmware to perfect

Factory Default of Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive

You could use this procedure if you forgot the local password of the managment console, you have
backed up all your files or if you want to install a bigger drive on the NAS

1. You will need a DVD or USB with Ubuntu Desktop or a Laptop or Desktop with Ubuntu Installed
2. In this case i'll use Ubuntu DVDR
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop#
3. Install the new SATA Drive on the desktop
4. boot and start Ubuntu Live
5. open a terminal (ctrl+alt+t)
6. reset Live cd root password with

#sudo passwd root

(follow screen instructions to reset root password)
5. now you can use root
#su
(use the root password when it prompts)
6) follow the next steps exactly as it shown. In the scenario you have 1 principal disk (your Windows,
Linux, Ubuntu disk) and the new sata disk (be careful to not erase your own laptop or desktop disk)

You can recognize the disk by it's size. (The size is given in 'blocks', which is 1 KiB)

Hola, gracias por compartir la información, en este caso dispongo de un Home Media Network Hard
Drive de 1 Tb, modelo MHNDHD exacto al del post. al encenderlo ocurre que la luz blanca inicia
luego de unos segundos la azul, posteriormente se ejecutan ambas luces de forma intercalada, luego
se apaga la azul y queda la blanca encendida un instante mas hasta que finalmente se apaga, no se
si en este caso hace referencia al Disco Duro que esta afectado, la tarjeta lógica a la que se conecta
el disco interno o una falla de reconocimiento del disco por el firmware que está desconfigurado,
lamentablemente no tengo a mano el cable Sabrent SATA-C35U Serial ATA to USB 2.0 Cable
Converter Adapter with Power Supply para intentar una restauración del firmware. Debo comprar el
convertidor, pero quiero asegurarme antes de que el disco duro interno funciona correctamente, mi
pregunta es: Si lo conecto directamente con el cable sata convencional en una tarjeta madre que es
compatible con conecciones de discos duros de SATA 1.5Gb/s, me debería aparecer el disco duro
una vez arranque el sistema operativo, o solo me aparecerá identificado en la BIOS, saludos.

Si puedes conectarlo como disco alterno en tu computador. La mayor parte de acciones de ambas
entradas del blog se hicieron con un Live Ubuntu. Aparecerá en el BIOS y podrás montarlo es del tipo
XFS.

Si quieres recuperar los datos deberás seguir la otra entrada

en ese caso la aplicación utilizada corre sobre Windows. También podrías usar otra llamada
ReclaiMe

Invertir unos 200$ por la última versión o buscar una en internet qué funcione.

Saludos Badboy, mi HD en el NAS se rompio, ahora estoy intentando instalar uno nuevo.
sin embargo el site para descargar los archivos de recuperacion no esta disponible. tienes
los archivos que se usaron para la recuperacion?

Hola, disculpa la tardanza, acabo de leer el correo, muchas gracias por tus sugerencias, logré hacer
funcionar el dispositivo siguiendo la serie de pasos probados bajo Linux, con ello restaure el firmware
del Home drive como si fuera de fabrica. Por suerte los datos estaban en una particion en estado
"unallocated" a la que tuve acceso usando el soft version UFS.Explorer.Professional.Recovery.5.17,
luego si desde Debian seguí los pasos, gracias de nuevo por el apollo brindado.

Buenos dias Gente. Dsde ya les agradezco porque segui el tutorial al pie de la letra y tuve exito.
Pude instalar un nuevo disco en el gabinete NAS IOMEGA.
