STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

INTRODUCTION
A desire to widen my knowledge and an exuberance to solve various problems faced by food
industries motivated me to pursue Master’s in Food Science and Agribusiness.

It was not less than a boon for me to study in exalted institutions since Kindergarten. Nestled
in the idyllic Urjanagar Township, DAV Public School, Urjanagar was established in
collaboration with Eastern Coal Fields Ltd. I completed my secondary education in 2013 with
10 CGPA score. Then I went to M.A.K. Azad Inter College, Basantrai and completed my
higher secondary education in 2015 with 70.8%. In 2019, I graduated from Sam
Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad with 9.07
CGPA. Also, I have secured an overall IELTS band score of 6.5.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
The first thing that made my mind clear to pursue Bachelor’s in Food Technology was its job
security. The food industry is one of the largest in the world, and people will always have to
eat. This means if someone is working anywhere along the food supply chain, the person will
always have a job. Secondly, the job availability provided by a food industry isn’t limited to
lab work or a desk job. Food technologists can make careers in quality, research and
development, sales, supply chain, business development, manufacturing and can also go for
government jobs. Having a degree in food science opens a myriad of opportunities.

RESEARCH/PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE
I have done three industrial trainings during my graduation. One was at Hindustan Coca-Cola
Beverage, Private, Ltd. where I learned about the whole water treatment process used to
prepare Coca-Cola beverages. Second training was at AIBTM, Greater Noida on Bakery
Science and Technology. Here I learned about various aspects of science used in bakery like
usage of enzymes, methods of preparation of different bakery products like cookies, donuts,
and pastries. And the third one was at Bikanervala Private Ltd. where I learned about the
packaging of food products and their quality testing. During my training at Bikanervala, I had
a chance to visit the production line where I was briefed about the processing of various
Bikanervala products by the Production Head. I was amazed to know that one single product
needs to cover so many steps in order to be ready for consumption.

Besides my industrial training, I also have a publication on “Importance of storing highly

perishable agricultural commodities in zero energy cooling chamber” published in
proceeding’s of National Seminar on sustainability of agriculture in changing climate,
organized by Department of Botany, University of Allahabad (Article number- 40). Other
than that, I have done my project on “Development of biodegradable packaging film using
garden pea (Pisum Sativum) peels”. By using waste of garden pea peels we developed a
packaging film by applying various techniques such as dehydration, grinding, soaking and
increasing cohesiveness between molecules by adding rice water and edible glycerine.

Apart from my research experience, I along with my team members have been awarded as a
finalist in the “NutriScholars Award” for category Healthy Breads. We prepared the bread
using soy nuggets and chakki atta. We fortified it with buckwheat and water chestnut flour.
Moreover, I have successfully completed International Student Competition FoodFactory-4-
us 2019 edition. The title of my project was “Utilize and convert cereals and vegetable waste
into dry matter for producing sustainable energy”. With the help of these national and
international competitions, I became aware of the difficulties faced by food industries. These
two competitions allowed me to research on extrinsic and intrinsic properties of foods and
allowed me to have better understanding of possible solutions to these problems.

WHY THIS PROGRAM?

Master’s in Food Science and Agribusiness program will provide me with a wide range of
learning environment, comprising of lectures, tutorials, laboratory and pilot plant practicals,
factory visits, online delivery, and individual and/or group presentations. This program
covers detailed study of food chemistry and biochemistry, food process and packaging
engineering, customer focused innovation and challenges in global agribusiness. Not only
that, this program also focuses on practically gaining the experience through food industry
internships apart from classroom lectures. The program also focuses on detailed knowledge
in agribusiness management which will ultimately favour me in becoming a productive
member in a food industry.

GOALS
In long term goal I see myself working in the Research & Development department of a
reputed company where I would get an opportunity to solve some of the major challenges of
the food industry. And thus, in order to foster my knowledge of the food industry, I decided
to pursue Master’s in Food Science and Agribusiness.

WHY THIS UNIVERSITY?

Monash University offers Master’s in Food Science and Agribusiness which best suits
my purpose of pursuing a master’s program. Under Master’s of Food Science and
Agribusiness program, course titled “Customer Focused Innovation” is what I’m most
interested in. Knowing consumer’s want and consumer’s quality expectations is
important for a novel innovation in food processing industry. Therefore, in order to fulfil
the overall quality demands of consumers, a food technologist needs to develop the skills
required to manage food quality and supply chain. This program also has a course titled
“Challenges in Global Agribusiness” which enables me to understand commercial and
economic issues surrounding agriculture and global food supply. Surely this course will
augment the knowledge that I have acquired during my graduation with both theoretical
and practical sessions.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES/SOCIAL WORK

CONCLUSION
Australia has high quality education from the best in class faculty. It is affordable as it
provides numerous scholarships to deserving students. Australian degrees are globally
recognised and the universities there have a great reputation all over the world. One great
advantage of studying in Australia is that it offers English taught courses so communication
would be easy. The studying environment is favourable for international students as it
provides students to explore more into their specialization and strive for the best. The
facilities for teaching, training and research have been elevated to world class by
implementing latest technologies. There are many research opportunities available in
Australia. Also, my uncle lives in Melbourne, Australia and thus I’ll be having a local
guardian. I sincerely hope that I qualify all the requirements for admission into your Post
Graduate Program and that my application is favourably received by the admissions
committee.
