provided, or record your findings in whatever format you prefer.

Field Research Assignment: Create and Deliver Rocket Pitch to Potential Investors

Create and deliver rocket pitch to potential investors. In order to raise capital, you
must present information to potential investors. Specifically, you should create a
three minute pitch that you could deliver to potential investors -- dubbed a Rocket
Pitch -- that if successful will make the potential investor interested in seeing a
more detailed business plan. This week you deliver the Rocket Pitch to at least five
potential customers, get their feedback, and record it.

The Rocket Pitch consists of three PowerPoint slides:

1. Slide: The Opportunity

 What is the problem/opportunity you've

identified?

 What is your solution to this problem or the

source of opportunity?

 What needs are being satisfied?

 What is the overt benefit, dramatic

difference, real reason to believe in your product?

 What is your vision of the business?

2. Slide: The Market

 Who is your target market?

 Give an estimate of the market size and

potential demand.

 Who are your competitors?

3. Slide: The Business Model

 How will you create economic and social
value?

 What is the cost of your product or service?

What is your margin?

 Where will you get the product? Or how will

your service be delivered?

 Why will this idea be a successful business

venture?

 Discuss the impact of your proposed

business on society, the environment, and any other affected stakeholders.

 Field Research Assignment: Identify Key Skills Needed for Startup Team and
Interview Candidates

To practice this skill, you should assess the skills required to grow your company,
figure out which of them you can do, and identify one critical skill you lack. For
example, if you are good at sales and need an technical expert, you should seek to
hire for that skill. In order to build your team you should

 Identify the skills needed to operate your company successfully

 Assess your strengths and the other critical skills required

 Develop job descriptions for each of the key skills you do not posses

 Identify potential candidates -- possibly from LinkedIn

 Develop interview guide

 Interview at least three candidates
