Installing INSITE

INSITE runs on the following Windows operating systems (Note ):
• Windows XP
• Windows 2000  Service Pack 4
• Windows Vista

Note : Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista 64-bit are not supported.

If you are using a previous version of INSITE:


• It is not necessary to uninstall previous versions of INSITE before installing the new version. The new
version will automatically upgrade the currently installed version. Note that in this “Upgrade” scenario,
steps 4 and 7 are omitted from the following pages.
• It is highly recommended that all existing Work Orders, Job Images, and Templates be saved to a
network drive, a different location on the PC hard drive, or a CD-ROM prior to installation of the new
version. The following folder and file need to be saved to ensure that all previously created Work Orders
remain available if needed.
• :\INTELECT\INSITE\WorkOrders
• :\INTELECT\INSITE\UserSettings\data.wo
• If the installation of the new version is going to be on a different drive or directory than the previous
version, first uninstall the previous version as described on page 7 of this Bulletin.
Note: If the installation of the new version is to a different drive or directory, it is recommended to copy
the old \Export, \Import, \Logs, and \WorkOrders folders as well as the \UserSettings\data.wo file to the
new \Intelect\INSITE directory.

Before you begin:


• Close any programs that you are using.
• Disable virus protection.
Most virus protection programs enable you to disable them using an icon in the task bar. Refer to your
virus program’s documentation for more information.

1 To begin:
1. Insert the INSITE CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Choose “Install INSITE 7.2” from the menu.

Note: It might take 30-60 seconds for the Installation menu


to appear, depending on the processor and speed of the
PC.
If the Installation menu does not appear automatically:

1. Click , then Run....

2. In the Open: box, type D:\CD-Start.exe. (If your CD-


ROM uses a drive other than D, substitute the correct
drive letter.)

3. Click to open the menu, then choose


“Install INSITE 7.2”.

Note: If you are installing in a language other than English,


select Detailed Installation Instructions to view
installation guides for additional languages.

1a Depending on the PC configuration, various install dialogs may be displayed and reboots may be required.
Follow all prompts and reboot as necessary, until the Welcome screen is displayed in Step 4 below.

2 Select the desired language from the drop down list and

then click. .

3 The Install Shield Wizard automatically begins preparing


the installation. The bar displays the Wizard’s
progress.

4 In the Welcome screen, click to continue.

Note: If you are upgrading a previous version of INSITE,


see step 4a below.

Or, click to exit Setup and return to


Windows.

Note: You can click in any of the INSITE


Setup windows to stop the installation and exit INSITE
Setup.

4a If you are installing over a previous version of INSITE, the


Upgrade Welcome screen is displayed.

In the Upgrade screen, click to continue.

Or, click to exit Setup and return to


Windows.

Note: You can click in any of the INSITE


Setup windows to stop the installation and exit INSITE
Setup.

5 Verify that your PC’s date and time settings are correct.

If both are correct, click


to continue.

If you need to change one or both settings, click


to exit INSITE Setup.

After correcting the settings, restart INSITE setup in


Step 1.

Note: You can click in any of the Setup


Wizard windows to return to the previous window.

6 Review the Product License Agreement. If you accept the


terms, click .

Note: Use the scrollbar to view the entire Agreement.

If you click , the installation will be cancelled


and you will be returned to Windows.

Jump to step 8 if you are upgrading

7 The INSITE software will be installed by default in the


C:\INTELECT\INSITE folder.

You can specify a different folder by clicking ,


as described in Step 7a below.

Note: This window also shows how much disk space is


available on each of your hard drives and how much is
required for INSITE. This may help you determine the
best location for INSITE.

When the installation path is correct, click


to proceed to Step 8.

7a If you click in Step 7, the Choose Folder


window enables you to change the installation path for
INSITE.
You can type the desired destination folder in the Path:
box, or click and as necessary to select a folder.

When the desired destination folder displays in the Path:


box, click to return to the Destination
Folder window.

8 If this is a new installation of INSITE, click


to begin the installation process.

If you are upgrading INSITE, the title text says Ready to


Upgrade INSITE, and you should click
to begin the upgrade process.

9 The Setup Status bar displays progress as INSITE files


are installed on your hard disk.`

10 You have successfully installed INSITE.

Click to return to Windows.

Open the Cummins INSITE icon on the Windows desktop


to start INSITE.

11 You must register INSITE before you can use it.


When you run INSITE for the first time, the Registration
Required window is displayed for you to enter your
registration password. This password is also called a
functionality level password.
Note: If you are upgrading INSITE, you do not need to re-
register.
Contact your Cummins distributor to obtain this password.
Your distributor will ask for your PC ID, which is
displayed in this window.
Type your “Basic” functionality level password that your
distributor provides into the spaces here, then click
to open INSITE with read-only access.

To gain full access, you must enter your functionality level


password for Pro, Industrial Pro, Lite, or RSGR in
INSITE using the Options command on the Tools
menu. Your Cummins distributor also provides this
password.
Refer to “Registering INSITE” in the INSITE Help system
for more information.

Removing INSITE

Use these steps if you want to remove INSITE from your PC.

1 Click , then Settings > Control Panel.

2 Open the Add/Remove Programs icon.

3 Select INSITE from the list, and click . Follow any additional prompts, as required.

4 When removal is complete, close all windows to return to the Windows desktop.
