Product description
The DECswitch 900FO six-port Ethernet to FDDI level 2 switch provides high-performance switching
between Ethernet and FDDI networks. The DECswitch 900FO has six front panel fiber-optic ST ports and
one FDDI logical rear-backplane port. Users can configure software individually for each of the six
Ethernet ports using clearVISN Multichassis Manager to connect through one of the front panel ST fiber
optic ports or to one of the DEChub 900 MultiSwitch (MS) chassis backplane LAN segments. In addition,
one of the Ethernets can be configured to connect through the AUI Ethernet port of the DEChub ONE-
MX single-slot chassis.
The FDDI logical port must be connected through either the DEChub 900MS chassis backplane or
through the physical FDDI ports available on the DEChub ONE-MX single-slot chassis for standalone or
stackable configurations.

Product positioning
The DECswitch 900FO complements the current family of DECswitch/PEswitch 900 products by
providing integral fiber optic-based Ethernet connectivity to this family of interworking switches. This
capability simplifies configuring fiber optic backbones into the DEChub 900 and provides a solution for
standalone, stackable configurations requiring fiber optic connectivity. Over time, the DECswitch 900FO
will support all firmware-based capabilities offered in the DECswitch 900EF, such as VLANs, RMON,
and routing.

Availability and ordering

The DECswitch 900FO will be available in June 1996 through Digital and its business partners.

Services
Digital’s DECswitch 900FO is sold with a one-year return-to-Digital warranty. Users must obtain a return
authorization number and send the defective product to a designated Digital logistics facility. Digital
sends a replacement within two business days of receipt. Digital can also provide competitive
supplemental services for a range of installation and onsite offerings.
