Children`s Literature: select a children’s book

3) - Write the definitions and choose the appropriate genre for the selected book.
 Concept book: It does not has a main character, problem, or plot. Instead, the
concept or the skill provides the book´s framework.
 Predictable books: It use repetitive words, phrases, or sentences, rhyme and rhythm.
The words and pictures are closely matched.
 Narrative book: It has at least one character, a problem, and a plot that leads to
resolution of the problem, like fairy tales, classic stories or popular children´s stories.
 Informational books: It provides accurate, factual information. They are organized
into sections, and the vocabulary tends to be more complex.
 They often use real photographs. They are a great way to introduce science, health,
engineering, history and geography topics to children.
This book is narrative because it tells a story and facts in an orderly manner
with problems and a final resolution
4) - Define these categories and choose the correct one
 Contemporary realistic fiction: includes stories that could happen to people or
animals. The characters are made up, but their actions and feelings are similar to
those of people we could know.
 These stories often take place in the present time and portray attitudes and
problems of contemporary people.
 Biography: tells the story of an actual person´s life or a portion of his or her life and
life is notable for his or her accomplishments or a significant triumph.
 Traditional literature: it has been used a way of passing down traditional wisdom and
knowledge necessary for the survival of the group as well as a way of explaining
myths, epics, legends, tall tales, fables, and religious stories.
 Modern fantasy: refers to works of literature in which the event, settings, or the
character are outside the realm of possibility. The author must convince the reader
to suspend disbelief by creating an internally logical and consistent world.
 Picture books: they are a format not a genre. The illustrations may provide clues to
setting, plot, characterization and mood.
It is a modern fantasy because characters
like Lilliputians do not exist and are very
small compared to Gulliver
