CHEM 002: Environmental Engineering
Course Description
This course introduces students to an overview of
environmental engineering discipline; the physical,
chemical, biological interactions within the
environment and associated engineering problems.
Students are introduced to common processes for
pollution control, environmental engineering practice,
ethics, and an introduction to proper design
approach.

Course Objective
The students are expected to analyze
environmental situations and come up with
solutions in the remediation of pollution
problems using the basic principles and skills
related to environmental engineering that are
expected to be common knowledge for
engineers.

• Announce reading and homework
• Take quizzes and Exams*

GRADING SYSTEM
PRELIM GRADE
PG = 0.5 CSP + 0.5 PE

CS (comprises Quizzes, Homework/Seatwork, other activities)

MIDTERM GRADE
MG = 1/3 PG + 2/3(0.5 CSM + 0.5 ME)

FINAL GRADE
FG = 1/3 MG + 2/3(0.5 CSF + 0.5 FE)

GRADING SYSTEM
Unofficially Dropped (UDRP)
Attendance is NOT part of your grade however this will be used to
monitor whether a student will be dropped (maximum allowable
absences will be 20% of the allotted time for the course)

Note: Your lowest quiz grade will be dropped if we have more than 3
quizzes in every term.

If student misses a quiz (even though the student is excused),


NO SPECIAL QUIZ will be given. However, SPECIAL EXAM
will be given a week after the scheduled exam for those who
were reasonably absent during the scheduled exam.
