Summary:
Throughout the unit, one can see a fairly consistent pattern of students who are at least meeting
expectations as well as handing items in on time reflecting a fairly good grade on their quizzes. Due to the
nature of the class and school, a lot of responsibility is put on the students in terms of homework
completion and self-assessment. The Pre-Assessments and Formatives are graded by completion. I
consider how much they’ve completed as well as whether or not it’s done on time. Each quiz is graded
numerically based on Mt. Blue High School’s Statistics & Probability Standards grading. After each quiz,
I grade each one and hand them back by the next class. On each one, I provide feedback and I offer any
clarification individually so as to not influence any students who have not taken the quiz.
I have a student who, throughout the semester, has the tendency to be late with homework but
gets it in “late” in the middle of class so as to not fall behind. They are a very hard worker and have told
me that they often have work right after school so I am often understanding when homework is not as
complete as it should be, granted that I know they know the material before the quiz.
There is another student who is frequently late and often needs that extra little push to come in
during my prep period or Academic Support Block to get help with material and/or take a quiz. This
shows to be significantly harder when the school closed off to students in accordance to COVID-19. This
is why those two summatives are missing.
In Lesson 4’s learning objectives, all the students who have completed all the assessments clearly
met the standards but in the summative quiz of Lesson 5, every students struggled with one question
based off of Lesson 4’s objectives. I’ve had to work one-on-one with the 2 students who have reached out
to bring their grade up. The others have not gotten back to me about handing theirs in or bringing their
grade up.
Up until Mt. Blue started taking action against COVID-19, the majority of my students were
doing very well in the class and some simply just needed a small push of encouragement. Without being
physically present to them due to the pandemic has significantly set back the steady flow that we
generally followed. Without that dedicated time in school, it’s hard to keep students in track in terms of
handing in their assignments and doing their quizzes.
