Rationale: How is this lesson relevant at this time with these students? Why is it important?
How does it fit with the rest of the unit?
This lesson will introduce the concept of the difference between facts and opinions and how to tell the
difference. This lesson is important to introduce before doing opinion writing and asking students to come up
with their own writing ideas.

 The Lesson went well, there ended up being more time spent on instruction than I
had planned for due to chattiness and calling out at the carpet. Using more
management tools will help with this:
- Class language- Whole body listening, following the Group plan, We thinkers vs. Me
thinking time
- Send repeatedly disruptive students to sit at their desks
- Can use chart with happy face/ smiley face- students following the group plan get
their name under smiley face, students needing reminders name goes under frowny
face
 Remember 80/20 rule- 20% of the time on teacher instruction, 80% students doing
 Reassess what students can do independently- 3 of each was too many for most
students
 Game- White boards for each student would have engaged all students better than
teams
