Semester 2 week 9

Is has officially been four weeks of online learning. Last week I was worried about

students falling behind because they stopped attending school, thus stopped attending online

schooling. Luckily, many students stepped up and came back. Some a little late than others, but

instead of only 10 students in each class participating, it is now 25 in each. This is a big deal

because I finally feel like my students are getting back into the grove of learning and hopefully,

will not be held back due to this pandemic.

I have been worried about my students grades this week. The school has announced that

students grades cannot go down, that they can only go up. This message was originally only for

teachers, but now has been sent to students. This has caused students to message my master

teacher and I about if they still have to do the work. It is hard as a teacher to tell students that

technically if they have an A, they would not need to because there grade can only go up. It has

been rough to explain in a way that does not make all the students stop working on their

assignments.

However, this has actually encouraged many of my students whose grades were below a

C. they have realized that it is possible to get a C in the class if they continue to complete their

work. I have seen an increase in these students activity the last few days. I have also had many

turn in late work, to help their grade increase. This has been exciting because I have gotten to see

them motivated and interested in their work.

This week the students have been continuing their work on their project. Their projects

are looking great! I was worried that they would struggle on these projects, but I have found that
the students know how to handle this kind of responsibility. I believe it is because I love doing

projects within the class, and that students have become used to creating projects in class, doing

research, and reading directions. This is important because in life, they will need to be able to

problem solve and follow specific directions. This has shown me that my students have grown

throughout this semester.

This week we had done our first Zoom meeting with the students. We were hoping to

help the students better understand the project and to ask any questions about what has been

happening, what to expect, and more. Sadly, our turn out was only 40 students out of 120

students. We were hoping for more, but I think many students felt they understood what is going

on and didn’t feel it was necessary to go to the meeting. However, for those that did show up we

were able to clear up a lot of misconceptions and help students better understand what is

happening on our ends as teachers.

Next week will be my last week with my students. My goal is to wrap up any loose ends

with students and return paper work to my master teacher. With everything being online, I had

taken and written down grades for students that I will need to return to her.
