4 Marking Requirements
4.1 IDENTIFICATION AND TAGGING
Number of packages should be consecutively. Each package shall be well visibly marked
on one side with indelible paint as indicated.
The shipping mark shall be stenciled on two opposite side with black, indelible and sea
waterproof paint as follows.
The symbols must be placed at visible spots. One shall not use more symbols than strictly
necessary.
f. Attachments and tackle for securing vessel to transport shall be suitable to prevent any horizontal or
rotational movement of the vessel.
g. Shipping saddles shall be located approximately symmetrical each side of the vessel’s Centre of
Gravity. Shipping saddles and vessel shall be designed for the following forces acting simultaneously
during transit, as a minimum:
Longitudinal 0.6g
Transverse 0.7g
Vertical upwards 0.2g and Vertical downwards 1.5g
h. Shipping saddles strength shall be suitable for being supported at each end of saddle on 1-square
meter supports during shipment and storing for up to 6-months, without causing deflection of the
saddle base and locally stressing the vessel above its design limits.
i. The shipping saddle base shall be suitable for securing to the transporter by clamping or bolting.
j. Sizes of shipping saddles are dependent on method of transportation and method of lifting on to
transporting vehicle. Dimensions shall be agreed during design Engineering.
k. Saddle height to be a minimum to reduce overturning forces, but enough for vessel attachments
Projecting downwards to clear surfaces on which it is to be placed.
6 PRESERVATION REQUIREMENTS
Site storage will be required for a minimum period of 24 months after delivery to site. Additional
preservation measures will be taken and following techniques shall be followed.
a. A warm, clean, dry and vibration free environment in a secure under cover storage area is required.
Pressure Vessels to be stored in a level and upright position.
b. Before the equipment is stored, either at the manufacturer’s works or during the various stages of
transport or at the installation site, the storage area must be properly drained and cleared of stones
or items with sharp edges.
c. Place the equipment on skids, pallets or dunnage to keep from resting in collected drainage or on
timber baulks, away from construction working areas.
d. Equipment will be stored with all nozzles or support steel clear off the ground.
e. Equipment transportation supports or saddles and temporary stiffening will be checked for
soundness.
f. Ensure that nameplates are undamaged and secure.
g. Sound protective coatings, subject to periodical inspection, are acceptable alternatives to
covered storage. Again ensure that all nameplates are undamaged and secure.
a. Each vessel shall be thoroughly cleaned inside and shall be free from grease, weld spatter, scale,
slag, rust, and other foreign matter. No cleaning agent containing chlorides will be used on austenitic
stainless steel material. Where exterior sandblasting and painting is required, the vessel shall first be
sandblasted and painted.
b. All gasket and machined surfaces shall be cleaned with solvent and coated with grease.
c. Manholes and nozzles fitted with regular blind flanges shall have the blind flanges installed
using the test gaskets.
d. Flanges, other than those furnished with permanent blind flanges shall be covered with a 12mm thick
plywood or 3 mm thick steel plate no smaller than the flange OD and secured with a
minimum of 4 bolts. A rubber gasket shall be placed between the cover and the nozzle.
e. All other openings shall be closed as mentioned below. Equipment shall be made watertight.
It is preferred that all equipment items are hermetically sealed; however, this is not practical for
certain large equipment items. When the equipment body is to serve as a barrier to prevent the entry
of dirt, insects, or corrosive atmosphere, the equipment openings shall be tightly sealed as follows:
i. Open flanges - Open flanges shall be fitted with a steel cover and an oil resistant rubber or
neoprene gasket and bolted with sufficient bolts to provide a weather-tight closure. Steel
a. Internal surfaces of equipment shall be thoroughly cleaned of metal particles, dirt and debris.
b. Internals of equipment that can be made airtight by use of flanges or plugs shall have internal
surfaces with Silica gel (material safety data sheet attached) and the openings sealed.
Equipment shall be tagged to indicate the type of internal preservative used. Tags shall be
waterproof and tear-resistant and shall be attached with stainless steel wire. Information shall
include the part(s) preserved, the type of preservative used.
a. Silica gel shall be used for the internal protection of pipes, drums, identical equipment,
preferably in non-hydrocarbon services. The equipment shall be closed thoroughly not to allow vapor
accumulation. Inspection at regular intervals is required.
7 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
a. All personnel involved will use necessary Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) as required such as
Safety Helmet, Welding Helmet, Shoes, Gloves, Glasses, Ear Plugs etc.
b. The Workers will be made aware of safety requirements related to this activity through daily tool box
and safety talks.
c. All required work permits will be acquired and kept available at respective work sites hanged clearly in
plastic folders or posted in permit boxes.
d. Safety notice board will be installed.
e. All equipment will be visually checked for errors by QC inspector prior to use.
f. MSDS for all the chemicals/substances i.e oxygen scavenger, biocide, and corrosion inhibitor to be
used should be explained to workers and should be available at point of use.
g. Suitable and adequate access/egress shall be maintained.
h. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) of all chemicals/substances used shall be forwarded to Health,
Safety & Environment (HSE) department.
