Cybercrime legislation

The cybercrime legislation is laws that create offenses and penalties for crimes committed using
ICT, data, or computers. The law cuts much deeper to ensure that as people exercise their
freedom through the internet, they do not criminalize their duties both intentionally or
unintentionally. Allowing people to interact freely through social platforms should also come
with individual responsibilities to ensure no one uses the platform to devour the other.
Therefore, since the governments are legible in protecting their citizens, it is their responsibility
to come up with features or laws that ensure to govern people's online presence without
limiting their freedom or violating their rights. Cybercrime is a global problem, and it requires a
coordinated international response to be trim its effects among worldwide people. However,
there is still a major challenge, as only 73% of nations have active legislation laws.

Distinguishing between cybercrime and internet freedom

Every person has a responsibility to play in ensuring that whenever they engage in
conversations, they have treated others in the most humane way possible. There is often a
narrow gap between being vocal through the internet and cyberbullying. One may not, at
times, be aware that their actions could be hurting to the other person. Therefore, this makes it
difficult for the rule of law to take action and punish the other. Although a person could have
participated in a conversation with clear intentions if in one way or the other the conversation
seemed offensive to the other person, it could automatically be termed as bullying. In such
instances, although the intentions were good, if the information trolls another person, then
that person should face the rule of law.

Examples of cybercrimes around the globe

Cybercrimes range from state-sponsored actors, individuals, to criminal organizations. It is often

classified as type one and two, where the first affects a person directly while the other affects
the person through people or things that make up that person's life. Therefore, the types of
crimes vary from one criminal to the other, as well as the methods involved in committing the
crime. The cybercriminal activities that happen every day are also taking new dimensions in
their bid to escape from the rule of law. Common examples of cybercrime include identity theft.
Although this could not be completely classified as a cybercrime, it is more likely to happen
technologically today. In America today, every two seconds, identity fraud happens. Another
form of cybercrime is cyberbullying, which is a representation of any form of online harassment
including doxing (exposing another person's personal information on online platforms without
their consent), stalking, fraping (braking into other people social media accounts and posting
fake news on their behalf), and sexual harassment. Other crimes include cryptojacking,
cyberextortion, and cyberespionage, among others.

Global and personal impact of cybercrime

A single successful cybercrime can have more implications, including loss of consumer trust and
confidence in particular brands, theft of intellectual property, and financial losses. Therefore,
when one becomes a victim of such crimes, it could lead to long-lasting effects on how one
perceives life. In general, if the crimes are perpetrated right, the impact could be worth billions
of dollars in a year. When one becomes a victim, the impact will also vary depending on the
type of crime at a particular point. However, it is evident that mostly the effect is felt both
online and offline. When hackers attempt to steal company information or take over their
servers, this could lead to drastic measures from the company to curb the effects of spreading.
In return, this will call for the employment of new staff to install and upgrade certain software
as a way of keeping intruders out. Globally, cybercrimes could damage a preparedness of a
country in fighting against terrorists and other crimes.

Summary

As the crimes continue to increase, especially on online platforms, it is essential for one to
ensure they brace themselves appropriately and with the right gear. One should always protect
their devices by ensuring to regularly update both software and hardware as a way of
protecting them. Additionally, be alert and keep an open eye across various platforms for easy
identification of a crime before it happens.
