Christmas Greetings!
Christmas Greetings!
Dear Fellow Carolers,
Welcome to Sing an Irish Christmas.
Thank you for sharing one of your Yuletide evenings with us as we sing carols together.
This year the Lord added another little daughter to our family! We have marveled once again at the
sweet wonder and breathtaking vulnerability of a little baby growing in the womb and first blinking
in the light. Psalm 139 tells us that as we have been getting to know her she, like each of us, is
completely known by the Lord. Every fiber of her being, her thoughts, her words, her steps.
Our steps have brought us here tonight with all our joys and sorrows. He has known every word we
will sing. He knows our thoughts as we consider once again the story He unfolded - the coming of the
baby in a manger, the promised King, the Savior of the world.
From the unfathomable heights of a star-jeweled sky to the hidden depths of a tiny heart beating
with life all the vastness of God’s creation whispers the glory of His name and the beauty of His truth.
What a privilege it is for us to sing of these glorious things and to ponder them in our hearts.
For those who would like to find out more about the meaning of Christmas and about the Christian Faith
we have a couple of complimentary books available to you in the lobby – please just ask!
If you have any additional questions, prayer requests, or are looking to be involved
in a church family near you, email info@gettymusic.com.

including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Newport Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Discover Jazz Festival,
Tri-C Jazz Festival, Jazz Standard, and the Gillmore Keyboard Festival. Fortner has been heard with other

Harris, Nicholas Peyton, Billy Hart, Dave Liebman, Gary Bartz, Etienne Charles and Christian Scott.
Buddy Greene - Over the last 30+ years, Buddy has performed across America, made
numerous trips abroad, and released twenty recording projects. His album Sojourner’s Song won the
Gospel Music Association’s Dove award for Best Country Album, and he has received 9 other Dove award
nominations. Through his long association with the Gaithers, he has become a favorite gospel performer,
appearing often on the Gaither’s popular Homecoming video series.
Buddy has also made his mark as a songwriter. Besides the many self-penned songs of his own recordings,
he co-wrote (along with Mark Lowry) the modern Christmas classic “Mary, Did You Know,” recorded by a
host of major artists, including Kathy Mattea, Kenny Rogers and Wynonna, Natalie Cole, Clay Aiken, CeeLo
Green, Rascal Flatts, Mary J Blige, and Pentatonix. Other songs of Buddy’s covered by major artists include “Recovering Pharisee” by
Del McCoury, “Fall Down, Children” by The Whites, and “He Is”, a number one for gospel artist Ashley Cleveland.
Sierra Hull has been recognized from age 11 as a virtuoso mandolin-player, astonishing audiences
and fellow-musicians alike. Now a seasoned touring musician nearing her mid-20s, Hull has delivered her
most inspired, accomplished, and mature recorded work to date; no small feat. Weighted Mind is a landmark
achievement, not just in Sierra Hull’s career, but in the world of folk-pop, bluegrass, and acoustic music
overall. With instrumentation comprised largely of mandolin, bass, and vocals, this is genre-transcending
music at its best, with production by Béla Fleck and special harmony vocal guests Alison Krauss, Abigail
Washburn, and Rhiannon Giddens adding to the luster. Hull speaks eloquently, in her challenging and
sensitive originals, her heartfelt vocals, and once again breaks new ground on the mandolin. Béla Fleck
special guests on banjo on two tracks and duo partner, Ethan Jodziewicz, not only anchors the record on
bass, but introduces us to a major new instrumental voice.
Krauss has contributed songs to numerous films, including “Down to the River to Pray” in the cult classic
film O Brother, Where Art Thou? and “You Will Be My Ain True Love” and “The Scarlett Tide” in the film Cold
Mountain. She has also provided the voice for several cartoon movie characters, including Bambi’s mother in Bambi II and Annabelle in
Annabelle’s Wish, as well as the singing voice of Davey’s girlfriend in the Adam Sandler movie Eight Crazy Nights.
In 2013, she performed at the Kennedy Center’s “American Voices” festival that was created and hosted by Renee Fleming and also
honored Dolly Parton and Paul Simon with performances during The Kennedy Center Honors. She has performed for three presidents—
George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
Phil Keaggy is perhaps one of the most admired guitarists in music today. His fans range from
those who aspire just to be able to play Keaggy’s mistakes, to professional musicians who have been
strongly influenced by his style. And in between are those who don’t play guitar, yet find solace in his
beautifully penned lyrics and memorable melodies. Phil’s solo career has spanned more than 40 years, and
has included over 60 solo albums, both vocal and instrumental, 8 releases with his band, Glass Harp, as
well as numerous duets and trio albums. One of the most sought-after studio guitarists, Phil also continues
to sell out concerts all over the United States, with his ever-changing style, ranging from rock-and-roll to
fully orchestrated instrumental compositions. Phil Keaggy continues to delight audiences all over the US
performing primarily acoustic shows, and occasional concerts with a band. He is aware that God gave him
a calling to deliver the Gospel through his music, and for over 40 years, Phil
Keaggy has been grateful to do just that, and will hopefully continue to do so for many years to come.

of listeners. His Christ-centered hip hop message has also built a platform among churches and other

other events.
Scott Mulvahill - As a teenager growing up near Houston, Texas, Scott picked up the bass
guitar on a whim. Natural talent and the lure of a challenge drove him to be the best musician he could

State University, Scott moved to Nashville, where his life changed after meeting American music icon Ricky
Skaggs and joining his Grammy winning band, Kentucky Thunder. He toured with Ricky for over five years,
and in that time, first started writing songs on his upright bass. He has since shared the stage with some
of the greatest artists of modern music, such as: Alison Krauss, Barry Gibb of the BeeGees, Bruce Hornsby,

himself, Charlie Peacock (The Civil Wars, The Lone Bellow) Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss, Sarah Jarosz), and
Shani Ghandi (Sarah Jarosz).
Andrew Nemr - Mentored by Gregory Hines, Andrew Nemr is considered one of the most
diverse tap dance artists today. An international performer, choreographer, educator and speaker, Andrew’s
work explores tap dance as a vehicle for storytelling and community building. He has played with Grammy
Award winning musicians across multiple genres, founded and directed the tap dance company Cats

2010 December
As with many creative ventures, it begins with a phone call. For
Joy—An Irish Christmas (the initial title of this Christmas tour), the
call was an invitation from Tom Bledsoe to be part of a special
Christmas celebration in 2010 with George Beverly Shea and Cliff
Barrows (with Billy Graham speaking on the first evening). The 30
minutes of music we prepared for that first night was expanded
to a fuller evening of music subsequently presented to a number of
churches that year.
2011 December
After a trip to Ireland to record the Joy—An Irish Christmas studio
album (called after our first daughter, Eliza Joy), the first official
tour kicked off with 18 performances and finished with a sell-out
performance at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
2012 December
The second year of the tour played to more than 30,000 people
over 18 performances combining church concerts and numerous
concert halls, again finishing at the Schermerhorn Symphony
Center in Nashville. In addition, there were two special Grand Ole
Opry performances at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
2015 November/December
In 2015, Joy—An Irish Christmas was presented in more than 20
cities, to an estimated 60,000 people across North America and
in several prestigious concert halls with sold out performances
including Carnegie Hall (New York), The John F. Kennedy Center for
the Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.), Roy Thomson Hall (Toronto),
and The Fox Theatre (Atlanta). A live performance was also released
on CD and DVD and broadcast across America on Public Television
stations during the Christmas season.
2016 December
With both a deepening desire to clearly tell the Christmas story and
a growing emphasis on carol singing, we developed the second half
“lessons in carols” format akin to the traditional service from King’s
College, Cambridge. We had four pieces of art commissioned, to
represent the four songs of Christmas as told in Luke. We developed
the Concert Hall Series with Alistair Begg at each event and new
special guests including Heather Headley, David Kim, Blair Linne,
Andrew Nemr, and Laura Story, as well as welcome returns from John
Patitucci and Ricky Skaggs.
2017 December
Following the launch of the Sing! conference initiative, the focus
deepened toward congregational singing and the celebration of carols
in particular. This tour featured some of the greatest memories in
the history of Irish Christmas from Joni Eareckson Tada doing the
readings at Carnegie Hall and sharing what Christmas means to her
50 years on from her accident, as well as Vice President and Second
Lady Pence attending the Kennedy Center show and hosting the band
to a private performance in their home. Kristyn was pregnant with
their fourth child, Tahlia, and new special guests included David Kim
(concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra) performing Winter
from the Four Seasons, and our friend David Platt sharing a Christmas
message at two of the events.

Ten Christmas Carols
Everyone Should Know
BY Keith Getty
Two years ago, during the Christmas tour, we were interviewed on national radio about the peculiarity of our
Christmas show as a public television broadcast focusing on Christmas carols, when they claimed only one of the
top thirty carols in America is actually Christian.
The longer we thought about it, the more we became convinced as hymnwriters, one of our main jobs with this
event is to introduce people to some of the greatest hymns of the Christian faith – the greatest Christmas carols.
This year we’ve included an article as an introduction to the program sheet music so you can enjoy singing in
harmony and taking them home to share with family and friends. We hope you enjoy singing them and that they
become a well-loved part of your Christmas season.

Traditionally the village square became a gathering place over Christmas time where carols and other
seasonal songs were sung and danced to cheer, warm and inspire local folk as they went busily on their

Saints of Zion. Drawing from Scripture and R.C. Sproul’s lifetime of theological reflection, and featuring soaring
melodies from award-winning composer Jeff Lippencott, these hymns offer biblical truth
to enrich worship and bring glory to God. These albums and songbooks are designed for
both congregational singing and private devotion, and we pray they will aid the church

MAKE
DISCIPLES
OF ALL THE NATIONS Matthew 28:19
The first time I ever met John MacArthur I asked his advice and he told
me to ‘always aim for depth’ in each of his answers. In the fifteen years
that has passed, in our friendship, in our private conversations, in his
preaching, he has inspired me to be a deeper believer and encouraged all
those who interact with our music to be deeper believers.
