Digital Trends and the changing role of accountants

Today technology has changed almost every aspect of life and accounting. Accounting is
known as language of business where an accountant provides supports to business in various
areas including financial accounting tax, compliance, management, auditing, financial systems,
business planning, payroll, etc. But the role of accountant is not changing with the
implementation of digital trends in the business processes. The accounting industry is currently
going through seismic change where the accountant can work smarter as well as can focus easily
on collective products and services (Handoyo, & Anas, 2019). The major areas of the
responsibilities in accounting and finance experts are to capture and update the data, design
reports and to do bank reconciliation as well as bookkeeping activities. Accountants can now
conduct collaboration and consult with their clients in real-time.

In olden times when the accountant has to develop records manually and it was also not
easy to maintain them. Digital trends made this work easier now with efficient and accurate
outcomes the accountants can easily develop reports and can maintain them for long time. At
present through the usage of smart technologies and artificial intelligence increase productivity,
safer working conditions also generating opportunities in favor of accounting and finance
experts. Now the finance and accounting experts do not have to check the digits and to keep the
records, but they also have to provide assistance to the business through optimization of the
finance. Digital trends in the organization also create some challenges in the sector by focusing
on the added value of business. The experts in finance and accounting have to deeply focus,
conduct analysis with the high values as well as the support in consultation with the clients and
business (Rao, 2019).
