SOLUTIONS
CLASS WORK

1. Let C = 100, then B = 120, then A = 144. So A is 44% more than C

2. 1/9 of 1/4 of 72 = 2

3. The difference is 55% and 25% = 20 + 25

=> 30% = 45 then 100% = 150

4. Total runs = 120, runs scored by fours and sixes = (4x4) + (6x4) = 40, runs between the wickets =
80
120 – 40 = 80, percentage of runs between the wickets= x 100 = 66.66%
120

5. 138 + 14 = 152 = 38% of maximum marks. Hence maximum marks = 400

6. Let us assume Expenditure=100, Price=10 and Consumption=10

Expenditure = Price x Consumption
100 = 10 x 10
Price increased by 30%. So new price, Price’=13
He intends to spend 4% more. So new expenditure, Expenditure’= 104
Expenditure’ = Price’ x Consumption’
104 = 13 x 8
Consumption reduced from 10 to 8 = 20%
OR Use successive percentage formula
30 b
4=30+ b+
100
b= -20%
7. Let P = 100, 25% 0f P = Q = 25, then 25% of 25 = 6.25

8. 113.35% of price = 22670, then 100% of price = 20000

9. Let Ram have 100, then Car price = 150 so money with Leela = 125
so Ram has 20% less money as compared to Leela

10. Let the man have 100/-, wife gets 20%=20, 25% of remaining 80 to son = 20, out of remaining
60, equally 15 given to four daughters=180k. So
if 15 = 180k then 20 = 240k

11. Like in question number 6,

Area = Length x Breadth
100 = 10 x 10
Area’ = Length’ x Breadth’
117 = 13 x 9
Breadth reduced from 10 to 9 = 10%
OR Use successive percentage formula
30 b
17=30+b+ b = -10%
100

12. Use successive percentage formula

40b
12=40+b+ b = -20%
100

13. Use successive percentage formula

10 ×10
10+10+ = 21%
100

14. Votes given to candidate 1 = 54.5%, Votes given to candidate 1 = 45.5%

the difference of votes = 9% = 180 votes
hence total votes cast = 100% = 2000 votes
But only 80% people voted. So if 80% = 2000 then 100% = 2500

15
15. =187.5 % , it means there is an increase of 87.5% in the salary.
8
2 x2
Use successive percentage change, x +2 x + =87.5, solving which x= 25%
100
OR We can verify the Successive Percentage Change from options to be equal to 87.5%

16. 45% of 1000 Boys failed = 450

55% of 500 Girls failed = 275
450+275
Failure% = ×100 = 48.33%
1000+500

17. Let income ratio be = 10 : 12 : 16

Expenditure ratio is = 4 : 7 : 14
Saving ratio will be = 6 : 5 : 2
A’s saving will be 120% of B’s saving

18. Let A earn 100/-, then his saving = 40/-

Saving of B is 100% more than A’s, hence = 80/-
let us assume the best case for B, that is let Earning of B = 80/-
So total saving = 40 + 80 = 120/- and total earning = 180
120
This 120 is what percent of 180 = ×100=66.66 %
180
so the answer can never be more than 66.67%
19. Population of city A, B and C be equal to 400, 500 and 800 ( Total = 1700 )
After increment of 25%, 20% and 15% it becomes 500, 600 and 920 ( Total = 2020 )
2020−1700
percentage increase = x 100 = 18.82%
1700

20. Using Successive percentage change, A’s salary increased by 2% and B’s salary increased by 8%.
X 18
Let A’s salary be X and B’s salary be Y. So 102X = 108Y, hence =
Y 17
