XII. Read the following passage and answer the questions: (5)
My own recollection is that I had not any high regard for my ability. I used to be astonished whenever I
won prizes and scholarships. I very jealously guarded my character. The least little blemish drew tears
from my eyes. If a teacher rebuked me, it was unbearable .I remember having received corporal
punishment. I did not mind the pain of the punishment so much as I did the fact that the people
thought I deserved it. I wept piteously out of shame in spite of the fact that I was just a boy in the
second standard.
