The Finnish Accordion Institute

The Finnish Accordion Institute was founded in 1980 in

Ikaalinen. Its purpose is to record and to promote Finnish
accordion music, its history and present practice. The Institute, is
primarly financed by the Ministry of Education.

The Institute publishes, collects and presents a wide range of

material connected with the'accordion. Its own publishing,activity
consists of records, cd's, sheet music and literature. The Institute
is willing to answer inquiries about the accordion and it strives to
make particularly contemporary Finnish accordion music know
abroad.

A variety of courses and seminars are arranged yearly. The

archives of the Institute keep records, videotapes, newspaper
and magazine clippings, literature and printed music, which are
available for scholars and other interested in the accordion. '

The Institute has an exhibition of 90 old accordions, which is

open for public.

 Unto Jutila (1944-1992) was a Finnish

r accordion player and a composer. He studied
accordion playing for instance under Leander
Norrback's guidance. He worked as a teacher
of accordion playing in many music colleges as
well as in the conservatoire of Central Bothnia.

Unto Jutila composed a lot of dance music and

entertainment music. For the accordion he
composed for instance the Concerto, the
Rhapsody and the suite Pictures for Children.
