CENTRIFUGAL FLOW COMPRESSORS

Centrifugal flow compressors consist of an impeller, a diffuser, and a

manifold
The impeller draws in air and accelerates it outward by centrifugal force.

After the air moves through the impeller, it is expelled into a divergent
duct called a diffuser. In the diffuser section, the air becomes dispersed;
its velocity is decreased, and its pressure is increased
The compressor manifold distributes the air in a smooth flow to the
combustion section

AXIAL FLOW COMPRESSORS

An axial flow compressor has two main elementsa rotor and a stator.
The rotor includes rows of blades fixed on a rotating spindle. The angle
and airfoil contour of the blades force air rearward, much like a
propeller. The stator vanes are arranged in fixed rows between the rows
of rotor blades and
act as diffusers.
At each stage, air velocity decreases and pressure increases.
The overall result is increased air pressure with relatively constant air
velocity from compressor inlet to outlet.
There are two basic types of fuel pump, Plunger type pump (variable displacement) and Gear
type fuel pump. For Variable displacement type, the inclination of the camplate or swashplate
and the movement of the rotor imparts a reciprocating motion to the plungers thus producing
a pumping action. The stroke of the plungers is determined by the angle of inclination of the
camplate.
