1. Introduction
1.1. Purpose
This manual describes the function and the manner of working of the system element CP-6003/CPC65
(system functions, processing and communication) and essentially contains
• Functional descriptions
• Technical specifications
• Interface descriptions to other system elements
• Possible configurations
1.2. Application
The system element CP-6003/CPC65 is used in automation units of the system TM 1703 ACP. It is
deployed in the field of telecontrol and automation.
The document you are reading right now is addressed to users, who are in charge of the following
engineering tasks:
• Conceptual activities, as for example design and configuration
• Creation of the assembly technical documentation using the designated engineering tools
• System parameterization and system diagnostic, using the designated engineering tools
• Technical system maintenance
Above applies, as far as these tasks do not involve manipulations of the hardware.
Manipulating the hardware itself, as for example "unplugging" and "plugging" printed circuit boards
and modules, or working on terminals and/or connectors – for instance when applying changes to the
wiring – are – also if they are an issue in the context of configuration, parameterization and diagnostic –
not subject of this document.
Instructions and regulations are also stated in installation manuals or manuals which
deal with hardware installation and other hardware manipulations.
1.4. Overview
1.5. Architecture
A TM 1703 ACP system consists of a master control element, up to maximum 4 bus interface modules
(electrical and/or optical) and uo to 16 peripheral elements.
A peripheral element consists of a power supply module, a peripheral control module and up to
8 I/O modules. The modules are mounted on a TS35 rail (DIN rail).
Optional the master control element can be configured with up to 2 serial interface modules (SIM) for
the communication with other automation units or control systems.
1.5.1. Mechanics
The master control element operates as bus master one electrical Ax 1703 peripheral bus which can be
operated with either 16Mbps or 4Mbps. This bus is available on different connectors:
USB- and patch cables, by means of those the connection between master control element and bus
interface is set up, may be maximum 3m long each.
The address of the peripheral elements on the Ax 1703 peripheral bus is determined in
SAT TOOLBOX II, when defining the Ax 1703 peripheral bus configuration. The same address will be
set on the peripheral elements.
2. Configurations
For the process input and output up to 16 peripheral elements are connected with the master control
element via the serial Ax 1703 peripheral bus and via bus interfaces. Several bus interfaces are
available:
Configurations with CM-0843, CM-0842 and CM-6830 can be found in the TM 1703 ACP data sheet
and in the bus interfaces data sheets (see 1.6, Further Documents).
Permissible configuration variants are listed below (supplying power to a time signal receiver or a
modem has not been taken into account):
CP-6003-A
CP-6003
These peripheral elements are completed by I/O modules for the process signal acquisition and output.
Information on a peripheral element, how I/O modules can be attached to it, and what functionality can
be achieved that way can be found in the peripheral element's system element manual.
The subsequent AM 1703 peripheral elements can be connected via CM-1831 to the optical Ax 1703
peripheral bus, if this one is operated with 4 Mbps.
Information on a peripheral element and its functionality can be found in the peripheral element's
system element manual.
Designation
Information on a protocol element can be found in the relevant data sheet (see 1.6, Further
Documents).
• System functions
─ central element, coordinating all system services
─ time management
− central clock of the automation unit
− setting and keeping the own clock's time with a resolution of 10ms
− synchronization via serial communication (with another automation unit), via LAN (NTP
server), or local (minute pulse or serial time signal)
─ SAT TOOLBOX II connection
─ storing firmware and parameters on a Flash Card
The above mentioned functions and features are described in detail in the document
ACP 1703 Common Functions System and Basic System Elements.
3.2. Engineering
For diagnosis, testing, parameter setting or documentation, the system element is supported by the
engineering tools of SAT TOOLBOX II. OPM II is required.

TM 1703 ACP uses a flash card for the storage of parameters, user programs and firmware codes for
basic system elements and supplementary system elements. This is located in the housing of the
master control element.
Attention
Press through the recess in the housing on the locking panel situated below until the guide for the
flash card is visible . Hold the locking panel in this position and guide the flash card in until it
engages. Then the locking panel can be released again and the flash card is secured.
