Faculty of Philosophy of the Hospital Health Sciences Study Program

2018

The Faculty of Nursing believes that:

Nursing is an art and science that involves caring for the individual: body, mind,
and soul. Nursing utilizes knowledge, skills, and attitudes to help individuals,
families, and communities throughout the health continuum use the nursing process.
Nurses lead and manage collaborative efforts in interprofessional health teams.

Caring is the center of nursing and the art of "being with" other people with whom
one feels commitment and responsibility. Caring is client-centered and includes
compassion, empathy, and care.

Education is an active lifetime process that equips nurses to become leaders. The
education process incorporates evidence-based concepts that stand out in changing
health care needs of individuals, groups and communities. Our shared educational
philosophy is student-centered, concept based, and collaborative. Students are
expected to be independent and responsible for their performance.

Health is a dynamic state of physical, mental, spiritual, and social functioning.

The health continuum reflects a person's experience when adapting to changes in the
internal and external environment to maintain homeostasis. The environment
includes the power that impacts the client. An individual has the ability to
influence and be affected by his ongoing relationship with the environment.

An individual is defined as the totality of a person and is the main focus of

nursing. An individual has intrinsic values, rights and responsibilities and
deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.

The responsibility of the Program to students is to recognize individuals who have

the potential to become competent nurses. This program has the responsibility to
help students to develop their potential by providing relevant curriculum under the
guidance of faculty who are prepared in an educational manner. Our teaching staff
strives to facilitate the optimal development of each student's potential. The
program provides opportunities for student participation in program planning,
implementation, and evaluation, and encourages personal growth through advice,
recreation programs, and self-governance.

The program's responsibility to the community is to prepare competent and

responsible professional nurses who are able to provide loving, high-quality, and
cost-effective nursing care. The program fosters an understanding of the
importance of a lifetime commitment to continuing education and a professional code
of ethics. The program prepares nurses who function as advocates for individuals,
families, and communities and who are aware of and respond to socio-political
issues that affect health care and public health needs.
