Summary
CHAPTER 1: Training In Organizations

Training is a process through which employees improves their skills and knowledge to
perform more effectively. As for a business that is working in an open system, must have to
interact with its environment from where its receives input and transformed it into output
through the system's processes. In the same way training also works as an open system in
which inputs i.e. (organizational and employee needs, training budgets, staff, equipment
etc) are transformed into outputs i.e. (improved knowledge, skills, attitudes etc). by the
training processes. For meeting organizational needs, an effective training system is
necessary which is basically a set of processes designed to transform organizational inputs
into output by going through different phases. The sequential steps of the phases includes
triggering event (AOP< EOP), Analysis phase (cause of performance gap), design phase
(creation of training objectives), development phase (creation of instructional strategies),
implementation phase (dry run/pilot testing) and evaluation phase (analysis of effects of
training). Each phase gets started with an input which goes through some processing and then
needed output for the next phase is produced. The training process model helps in better
understanding that how different phases are related to each other and how the output of one
phase becomes the input of the other phase.
The challenge of aligning training with business strategies and retaining the
knowledge workers have become one of the top most priorities of the organizations. In
twentieth century the organizations are seeking ways to cope with the issues related to
demographic shifts, increased market competition, meeting the consumer demand, and
providing the training programs to the existing employees to keep up with the changes. Most
of the successful organizations focus on providing training programs with continuous
improvement systems. ISO is the organization which not only ensures quality products but
also helps in improving efficiencies, productivity and creating opportunities to the companies
that become certified. The training system must provide equal opportunities for learning and
practice within the legal environment. Career paths offered by training requires necessary
understanding of how the training unit fits in the organization because this can vary from
organization to organization. There are some basic concepts and terms which considered to
be important in the field of training i.e.; learning, competencies, knowledge, skills,
attitudes thus, it is important to have a good understanding of how these terms are commonly
used in this field. Some authors have different opinions in the field of training about what
constitutes training versus development and education. Training will be considered as
providing an opportunity to the people to learn job-related KSA’s. While education focuses
on more general KSA’s and Development refers to the learning of KSA’s.
