Association for Women in Communications (AWC) expands on Winthrop Campus

Club begins accepting new members in 2020 spring semester

The Association for Women in Communications on Winthrop’s campus is expanding and accepting more
students in the new semester. AWC is an organization that specifies in promoting women empowerment and
professionalism within the communications field.

The Association for Women in Communications Club has been on Winthrop campus for multiple years
but is now looking to expand and rebrand its organization to students of all majors. AWC will be accepting
students from all majors, regardless of gender, and will be creating a more active campaign for students this
semester. The club promotes professionalism within the communication field by bringing in guest speakers,
hosting events on campus, and raising awareness for female inclusivity in the professional world.

The club has spent the past few weeks recreating its image and is excited to provide a more inclusive
and active experience for current and future members. “I was excited to hear about AWC because I think it’s a
club that I’d get involved in and I can really see it thriving on Winthrop’s campus,” said Junior Emily
Buchanan. The club is finalizing upcoming meeting dates for the next few weeks and plans to announce those
on its new instagram account which is in the process of being created. President Syesha Latimer is excited to
work with students.
