Literature Review

How can you lose weight, is a question that is asked by many people and is a question

that people often think about to find an answer. To lose weight, there are several ways, but there

is a different one for everyone. In the past years, the options for losing weight were very fewer

than they are now. We are so very fortunate to have several ways to lose weight and ways that

can fit everybodys’ needs. There are so many ways to lose weight, you just need to find the right

one for you!

The article written by Marianna Eg, “How Family Interactions about Lifestyle Changes

Affect Adolescents’ Possibilities for Maintaining Weight Loss after a Weight-Loss Intervention:

A Longitudinal Qualitative Interview Study,” talks about how childhood obesity is a highly

complex condition and could possibly reduce life span. It also talks about how there is a study

going on that focuses on how family interactions influence kids' weight. The author believes that

the whole family’s support of one is very crucial if adolescents are trying to benefit from the

intervention of weight loss. After reading and looking through this source, I believe that it is a

source of success. But, on the other hand, the article written by Jayne Leonard, “16:8 Intermittent

Fasting: Benefits, How-to, and Tips,” talks about there being no limit to what you can eat.

Leonard just says that there is a restriction in the time that you can eat the food.

“They All Work… When You Stick to Them” talks about support being a huge factor in

losing weight. There are several people when trying to lose weight that don’t receive the support

that they need. If you have support, that will make you want to continue on with what you’re

doing and work even harder. Having that motivation could lead you to much better progress and

you would be able to see a difference. From reading this article, I would have to say that I agree

with the author about support. If you have support in doing something, you could go very far.

The article “10 Proven Strategies to Help Patients Maintain Weight Loss: Patients’

Chances of Keeping off Weight Long-Term Improve with Evidence-Based Interventions, Such

as a Sound Diet, More Exercise, and Attention to More Thoughtful Eating Habits.” by Marijane

Hynes talks about several different strategies and ways that weight loss can be maintained. One

strategy that Hynes talks about is to encourage patients to spend more time getting exercise. This

is a really important way because being able to maintain a high level of activity can be very

helpful in losing weight and can be a big key. Another strategy talked about was working with

patients to ensure sound sleep hygiene. There are studies that say six or less hours of sleep can

cause obesity, rather than being on a sleep schedule that is designed from 10 pm to 6 am. A third

strategy is to encourage patients to eat at home and stay away from the processed foods. This is a

super important strategy because in the article it says, “Subjects in the ultra processed food group

ate, on average, 500kcal/d more and gained 2 lbs in 2 weeks.” Which shows a clear difference

between the foods that are processed and the foods that are ultra processed. By following these

very important tips, they will help to maintain weight loss.

There are multiple misconceptions that come with weight loss. This includes having to go

out of your way to do something that you would like to get to or achieve because majority of the

time, it is not going to just come to you. “Specifically designed to fit around your lifestyle and

the food you like,” is another misconception because weight loss programs cannot be around

everyone’s lifestyle. It is better to eat small portions of the food that you are craving than to just

avoid it because that craving for the food will not go away.

In my opinion, I think that a big factor in improving one's weight loss is by exercising

and eating healthy. I would like to further my research by looking more into eating healthy and

also dieting. I would not only like to learn more about those, but also why there are so many

people in our population today that are obese. Lastly, I would like to look into how many people

achieve their short and long term goals and how they feel if they don’t achieve them.

In conclusion, by doing the literature review, it allowed me to look at not only one, but

both sides of my questions and also understand it more. After all, I was able to find many

similarities and differences between all my sources that I used and I am looking forward to

learning more about my questions.
