“MORE WILL BE REVEALED” RELIGIOUS PORTRAIT ASSIGNMENT

Week 1 (4/27): Click on the link below and watch the video. As you watch, follow the artist’s step-by-step
instructions to draw a face in proportion. Use the VERTICAL FORMAT for your drawing. Feel free to pause
and rewind the video as many times as you’d like to help you as you draw. (IMPORTANT TIP: Skip drawing
the hair this week.) When you’ve finished drawing the face (with no hair), put your drawing in a safe place to
save for Step 2 next week. If you have a folder, please store it there until next week.

Week 2 (5/4): Get the picture of the face you drew last week. Then, click on the link below and watch the
video. As you watch, follow the artist’s step-by-step instructions to shade the face. Feel free to pause and
rewind the video as many times as you wish to help you as you draw. You can use a Q-tip, cotton ball, or
tissue to smudge the pencil lines to make them softer. When finished, put your drawing aside until next week.

Week 3 (5/11): Click on each of the 3 video links below and watch all 3 videos. (IMPORTANT TIP: DON’T do

Now, take a few moments to consider whether you’d like to draw the face of Jesus or the face of the Blessed
Mother. You’ll be turning the face you shaded last week into the face of Jesus OR the face of His Mother,
Mary.
● If you decide to turn your face into The Blessed Mother, you’ll need to erase some of the hair you drew
last week and add a veil to cover her head. It’s OK to let some hair show if you want. Be sure to add
shoulders and a neckline. Play Video #4 again to help you draw Mary’s features.
● If you decide to turn your face into the face of Jesus, you’ll need to add a moustache and a beard. Be
sure to add shoulders and make the hair longer. Add a neckline as well. Play Video #3 again to help
you draw Jesus’ features.
As you transform your work into the face of Jesus or Mary, think of how God will transform YOU if you allow
Him by opening your heart to Him! God is the Master Artist, the Master Craftsman!

DUE DATE: Your completed drawing of Jesus or The Blessed Mother is due on, May 14th. Please take a
picture of your completed work and send it to my email address by 9 PM on 5/14. Please be sure to adhere to
the criteria for this project as outlined in the Grading Rubric which follows on the next page. I pray that you’ll
truly feel Christ and His Mother Mary’s Presence as you work on this, always remembering how very much
they love you! May God bless you in your work as you honor Him!

-Give God your worries, your fears, your concerns. Ask Him to help you carry the crosses you
feel in your life.
-Also give God your joys & your triumphs. Ask Him to help you see your strengths, your talents,
all those things that make you UNIQUE & SPECIAL!
-Finally, ask God to guide you each day to help you see what He is calling you to do and to be!
