I. OBJECTIVES:

A. Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American Literature and
other text types serve as means of preserving unchanging values in a changing world, also how to use the features
of a full-length play, tense consistency, modals, active and passive constructions plus direct and indirect speech to
enable him/her competently performs in a full-length play.

B. Performance Standards: The learner competently performs in a full-length play through applying
effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources based on the following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery
and Dramatic Conventions.

C. Learning Competencies/Objectives: Compose a play review. (EN9WC-IVb-11)

B. Establish purpose of the lesson
1. Explain the importance of review.
2. Appreciate the skill to develop in reviewing a play.
3. Write a play review.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson
Let the selected students explain to the class the following: (See English Time pp. 16)
1. What is a review? A review is a subjective but educated response to a piece of theater. The
reviewer should have a strong background in theater so that his/her opinion is informed and credible.
2. What is the purpose of the review? A review gives potential audience members context for a
production. Most people want to know if they should spend their hard-earned money on a ticket. Is this
show any good? If it is, what makes it good? If it’s not, what makes the show falter?
3. what should one learn from a review? A review should describe the situation of a play without
giving too much information about the plot. It should address the production elements individually and
how they work together as a whole. It should express an opinion supported by thoughtful analysis.
D. Discussing new concepts and practice new skill
Group the class into eight (8) each group will create a play review of Romeo and Juliet and Death of
a Salesman.
