Acid

CAUTION
If the acid overflows, it should be absorbed and neutralized immediately.

When handling a leaky battery, protect against the possible damage caused by the acid. Use the
following materials to absorb and neutralize acid spills:

l Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda): NaHCO3

l Sodium carbonate (soda): Na2CO3

Antacids must be used according to the instructions provided by the battery manufacturer.

Lithium Battery

CAUTION
There is danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced.

l Replace the lithium battery with the same or equivalent type recommended by the
manufacturer.
l Dispose of the used battery according to the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
l Do not dispose of the lithium battery in fire.

1.5 Radiation
Electromagnetic Field Exposure

CAUTION
High power radio-frequency signals are harmful to human body.

Before installing or maintaining an antenna on a steel tower or mast with a large number of
transmitter antennas, the operator should coordinate with all parties to ensure that the transmitter
antennas are shut down.

The base transceiver station (BTS) has RF radiation (radiation hazard). Suggestions for the
installation and operation of BTSs are given in the following section. Operators are also required
to comply with the related local regulations on erecting BTSs.

l The antenna should be located in an area that is inaccessible to the public where the RF
radiation exceeds the stipulated value.

1 Safety Information N68E-22 Cabinet Installation Guide

l If the areas where RF radiation exceeds the stipulated value are accessible to workers,
ensure that workers know where these areas are. They can shut down the transmitters before
entering these areas. Such areas may not exist; but if they exist, the areas must be within a
range of less than 10 m around the antennas.
l Each forbidden zone should be indicated by a physical barrier and striking sign to warn the
public or workers.

Laser

CAUTION
When handling optical fibers, do not stand close to, or look into the optical fiber outlet with
unaided eyes.

Laser transceivers or transmitters are used in the optical transmission system and associated test
tools. Because the laser that is transmitted through the optical fiber produces a small beam of
light, it has a very high power density and is invisible to human eyes. If a beam of light enters
the eye, the retina may be damaged.
Normally, staring into the end of an unterminated optical fiber or broken optical fiber with the
unaided eyes from a distance of more than 150 mm [5.91 in.] will not cause eye injury. Eyes
may, however, be damaged if an optical tool such as a microscope, magnifying glass or eye
loupe is used to stare into the bare optical fiber end.
Read the following guidelines to prevent laser radiation:
l Only the trained and authorized personnel can perform the operation.
l Wear a pair of eye-protective glasses when you are handling lasers or optical fibers.
l Ensure that the optical source is switched off before disconnecting optical fiber connectors.
l Never look into the end of an exposed optical fiber or an open connector if you cannot
ensure that the optical source is switched off.
l To ensure that the optical source is switched off, use an optical power meter.
l Before opening the front door of an optical transmission system, ensure that you are not
exposed to laser radiation.
l Never use an optical tool such as a microscope, a magnifying glass, or an eye loupe to look
into the optical fiber connector or end.
Read the following instructions before handling optical fibers:
l Only the trained personnel can cut and splice optical fibers.
l Before cutting or splicing an optical fiber, ensure that the optical fiber is disconnected from
the optical source. After disconnecting the optical fiber, use protecting caps to protect all
the optical connectors.

NOTE

l Each RNC cabinet is configured with nine cables, that is four -48 V power cables, four RTN power
cables, and one PGND cable.
l It is recommended that the PGND cables of the RNC cabinets be connected to the closest grounding
bar. When the PDF is far from the RNC cabinets, for example, the PDF is not in the same equipment
room as the RNC cabinets, connect the PGND cables of the RNC cabinets to the closest grounding
bar co-grounded with the PDF rather than connect the PGND cables directly with the PDF.

7.3 Installation Specifications for RNC Power Cables and

PGND Cables
When installing the RNC power cables and PGND cables, ensure that the requirements for
routing and binding the cables are met.

Requirements for Routing Cables

l Before routing the cables, wrap the connectors by using the insulating tapes to prevent the
connectors from contacting the terminals connected to the PDF.
l While routing cables, take the capacity expansion into consideration.
l Separate the power cables and PGND cables from the signal cables.
l When power cables or PGND cables are laid parallel to signal cables, leave at least 10 mm
between the power cables or PGND cables and the signal cables inside the cabinet and at
least 100 mm between them outside the cabinet.
l Ensure that the bend radius of the power cables and PGND cables is five times longer than
the diameter of the cable.
l In the underfloor cabling mode, reserve extra length of the power cables outside the cable
holes of the power distribution box on top of the cabinet. The purpose is to help plug in
and pull out the cables. In addition, flush the cables at the top of the cabinet.
l When connecting power cables to the terminals of the power distribution box, route them
in a straight manner and ensure that The cables are routed smoothly without any tangling.

Requirements for Binding Cables

l Bind the power cables and PGND cables separately from the signal cables.
l Bind the power cables and PGND cables every 200 mm.
l Determine the types of cable ties (100 mm, 150 mm, 300 mm, or 295 mm) based on the
number of cables.
l Orient the cable ties to the same direction.
l Bind the cables tightly. Then cut off the surplus parts completely for indoor cable ties and
leave 3 mm to 5 mm for outdoor cable ties. Trim the tails of the cable ties.

(Underfloor Cabling)
This describes how to install power cables and PGND cables between the N68E-22 cabinet and
the PDF by underfloor cabling.

7.4.1 Overhead and Underfloor Cabling Modes

The cables can be connected to the RNC cabinet in either overhead cabling mode or underfloor
cabling mode.
Based on actual scenarios, the cabling can be of either overhead or underfloor cabling mode.
For overhead cabling mode, the cables are led upward out of the cabinet through the upper cable
hole or other channels; for underfloor cabling mode, the cables are led downward out of the
cabinet through the lower cable hole or other channels. Here shows an example of overhead/
underfloor cabling mode through the upper/lower cable hole.
External cables can be connected to the RNC cabinet either through the upper cable hole or the
lower cable hole. Each corner on the top and the bottom of the cabinet provides a rectangular
cabling hole, as shown in Figure 7-8.

If the cable hole is covered with the rodent-proof cover, you need to remove the cover before
the cabling. Then, lead the cables through the cable hole and bind the cables. Replace the rodent-
proof cover on the cable hole, and mark the area to be cut based on the cross section of the bound
cables. Then, use the scissors to cut the area. At last, replace the rodent-proof cover. Ensure that
the bound cables fit in well with the cover, that is, the cables are fully engaged and no side
clearance is left.

Overhead Cabling
The cables are fixed through the cable holes of the two sides at the top of the cabinet. Route the
cables along both sides of the cabinet in the downward way to the related devices. The overhead
cabling mode is suitable for the equipment room with the cement floor, as shown in Figure
7-9.
