Recalling its previous resolutions and statements relating to the situation in Iran,
Reaffirming its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and unity of Iran,
and recalling the importance of the principles of good neighbourliness, non-interference and regional
cooperation,
Recalling that the Government of Iran bears primary responsibility for ensuring peace, stability and the
protection of civilians in Iran,
Welcoming the enhanced ongoing political dialogue among all relevant parties,
Expressing its serious concern at the continued deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation, in
particular after the dramatic events that occurred in the United States military bases in the country,
Determining that the situation in Iran continues to pose a threat to international peace and security in the
region,
Stressing the need to address the causes of armed conflict in a comprehensive manner in order to enhance
the protection of civilians on a long term basis, including by promoting economic growth, poverty
eradication, sustainable development, national reconciliation, good governance, democracy, the rule of
law and respect for and protection of human rights,
Reaffirming its resolutions 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security, resolution 1325 (2000) on women,
peace and security, 1612 (2005) on children and armed conflict, and 1674 (2006) on the protection of
civilians in armed conflict,
Noting the existence of challenges to the stability of Iran and determining that the situation in Iran
constitutes a threat to international peace and security in the region,
Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations (Last preambulatory),
1. Reaffirms its strong support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action of 2015;
2. Urges Iran to cease its violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action;
3. Calls upon the Government of Iran to continue to prioritize the complete implementation of the
Joint Comprehensive Agreement adopted in 2015, and to take forward critical reforms regarding
the production of uranium;
4. Decides to establish, for an initial period of six months, a United Nations Mission in Iran, with a
mandate to facilitate the implementation by Iranian parties of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of
Action;
5. Renews its appeal to all Iranian political forces to implement fully and without delay the Joint
Comprehensive Agreement and invites the government of national reconciliation to this end to
develop a timetable for implementing theJoint Comprehensive Agreement and to communicate
this timetable to the United Nations Mission in Iran;
7. Requests the Secretary-General to report to the Council every month on the implementation of
this resolution and to provide monthly updates;
8. Decides that until August 1, 2020, the mandate of the United Nations Operation in the Middle
East shall be the following:
a. Protection of civilians – To support the Iranian and American security forces to protect
civilians in the event of a deterioration of the security situation that could risk a strategic
reversal of peace and stability in the country, taking into account the United Nations
Operation in the Middle East’s reduced capabilities and areas of deployment;
c. Support for humanitarian assistance – To facilitate, as necessary and within the United
Nations Operation in the Middle East’s reduced capabilities, the provision of
humanitarian assistance and to support the Iranian authorities in rebuilding displaced
communities with relevant humanitarian organizations, and in creating security
conditions conducive to it;
d. Public information – To continue to use the United Nations Operation in the Middle
East’s broadcasting capacity to contribute to the overall effort to promote sustainable
peace, as well as to provide information about the ongoing transformation of the United
Nations’ engagement in Iran;
