crystalline solar modules typically lies between 12 and
now up to 20 %, and 5 to 12 % for thin-film modules.

As one would expect, with the current yield from the

irradiated solar energy at 5 to 20 %, research is being
carried out all over the world with the aim of increasing
the efficiency and new technologies are being developed
to increase the efficiency of photovoltaics. It is also worth
pointing out two things here. Firstly, the photovoltaic
effect in semiconductor elements such as silicon has
physical limits (not even an efficiency of “only” 50 % can
be achieved), and secondly that the energy received from
the sun is free. So even if only 15 % of this energy is con-
verted into electricity by a module, this electricity is still at
no charge. Much more important in this context is keep-
ing the production costs of the module within limits that
are reasonable for everyone. Increasing the efficiency
and simultaneously reducing the price are the central ele-
ments for developing photovoltaics into a “global player”
in the energy supply of the future.

For plants with central inverters, several generator connection boxes are
generally used. Most collectors located in the module field are known as
preliminary collectors or array boxes.

In preliminary collectors specially adapted for the PV market, nearly all Individual Components

Group Collectors for PV Power Plants

AC distributor systems – pre-assembled solution
Group collectors are used if several small preliminary collectors are built
into the field in large PV power plants or a circuit breaker or overvoltage
protection is required due to the technical design of the inverter. Where
there are four or more parallel strings, fuses are installed in order to protect
the main lines.
The group collectors are generally positioned directly next to the inverter, in
order to allow easy disconnection on the DC side when necessary.

is very important, because only when the solar

energy without any malfunctions.

Development: In order to ensure this, our

technicians are constantly working on the further
development of our installation systems. The
company’s own design and development depart-
ment cooperates closely with external structural
design agencies. The constantly changing practi-
cal requirements of installation are incorporated
in the daily development work of our technicians.
This work results in new standard solutions.

Experience: Decades of experience gained by

our partners from the daily installation of the
different photovoltaic plants are directly incor-
porated into improvements in the products and
components.

Structural Safety: The systems are released for

distribution when all tests have been passed and
the structural analyses are available.

Aesthetics: In addition to safety, long opera-

tional life and short installation times, we attach
particular importance to the pleasant appearance
of the generator area.

Acceptance: A high acceptance achieved

among the investors when the plants do not look
like architectonic foreign bodies. Therefore our
goal is the harmonious integration of photovoltaic
plants into the environment.

As the normal solar charger, they have extensive protective measures and a
system for professional battery care.

Night Light Charger

Due to a special control unit, these solar charge regulators can auto-
matically regulate the operation of night lighting. The night-light charger
recognises dusk and dawn independently and can be programmed via a
time switch so that the light shines for a pre-set number of hours before
dawn and after dusk. This charge regulator is ideal for e.g. street lights,
bus-stops, sign illumination or similar applications.

Monitoring
To monitor and analyse off-grid systems it can be necessary to record the
most important system parametres. Data loggers and current sensors for
particular solar chargers are available for this purpose to enable system
monitoring.

The product range of solar charge regulators:

• power classes from 60 W to 6.5 kW PV input power
• in 12 V, 24 V and 48 V system voltage
• from the manufacturers Steca, Phocos, MSTE and SMA.
