Internship is considered as one of the most important stage in the life of any student
who is pursuing any professional degree whether it be law, engineering, CA, CS etc.
With the help of internship programmes, students are able to know various things
related to the practical knowledge of their subject.

Some of the advantages of doing internship are :-

 Internship helps a student to gain practical knowledge of their subject.

 It helps an individual to apply his theoretical knowledge in the real,
professional world.
 Internship helps a student in acquiring that particular skills that would help
him succeed in his/her life and would help him/her in becoming better
professionals.
 Internships also provide the exposure to the students which are required in
order to become successful professionals.
 Internship also helps a student in building his/her own resume. For example,
by doing internship in a law firm makes law school graduates more
marketable to the employers. Internships showcases the dedication of
students to learning as much as possible about the law, not just in the
classroom, but also in the real world.

The internship is an opportunity for the law students to put together what
they have learned in their classes and see how it all works in the real world. It
gives the students the chance to meet challenges when it comes to getting
along with people on the job, from clients to support staff, to attorneys etc.

There are different types of internship opportunities available for the law
students. They can do internship at various places, ranging from NGO’s to
doing internship under any advocate of the district court or the high court or
of the supreme court of India. They can also do their internships in any law
firm which can provide them with a fair idea about the working of the law
firms in of our country as well as also provides experience to the law students
regarding how to work in the law firms in the near future.

ORGANIZATION FOR INTERNSHIP

I have done my internship in the law firm named “Ligamine – Law office of
Himanshu Raj”, Chandigarh which mainly deals with Real estate, IPR and
consumer laws. The office is situated in sector 10, Chandigarh. The reporting
time for interns and the associates was 9 AM in the morning and the usual
time of leaving the office was 8 in night. The founding partner of the firm
Advocate Himanshu raj is the former Assistant Advocate General of the govt.
of Haryana.

Ligamine mainly deals in the matters of Real Estate, IPR, Bankruptcy laws
and consumer laws. Many of the big names of Punjabi movie and music
industry are the clients of Ligamine. Besides that, the firm deals extensively
in RERA laws. Not just serving the clients in RERA Tribunal or RERA
appellate tribunals, the firm also carried out litigation in Punjab and Haryana
high court and has a huge hand in making the processing better and
accessible at both RERA Punjab and RERA Haryana. The firm is
spearheading the movement to make processes at the tribunal smooth and
quick.

The tasks during internship revolve around researching about various

problems and cases related to the RERA act and its application in various
aspects. Moreover, we also Himanshu Raj and senior associate Mr. Gurjant
Singh Cheema for various proceedings

Having interned earlier in the high courts as well as in an NGO in my

previous internships, the internship in a law firm that particularly deals in the
matters of electricity regulation was a different learning experience altogether
as during this internship, I had studied and gone through the various aspects of
the Electricity Act, 2003 which I had not done in any of my previous
internships by way of researching about various topics related to the
Electricity Act, 2003 so it was a completely different learning experience for
me altogether.

Roles and Responsibilities during Internship

This internship was really important and beneficial for me as for the first time,
I have read and studied about the Electricity Act, 2003 and its applicability in
different cases and situations . As the firm majorly deals in the matters of
electricity litigation in India, so we as interns were assigned different research
work related to provisions of The Electricity Act, 2003 which would depend
upon different cases and circumstances. This has increased my knowledge
related to The Indian Electricity Act, 2003. So, through researching, I have
read and come across some new and different topics which are related to the
Electricity Act which I had never come across or knew before as I haven’t
studied this subject in college till now.
One of the important objective of doing this internship was to gain
knowledge related to the Electricity Act, 2003 as it was a new field for me
which I haven’t studied before. Moreover as a budding lawyer, this internship
gave me an opportunity to discover and explore different areas of subjects of
law so it was a good experience for me altogether.

Some of my roles and responsibilities during my internship are:-

 Researching- This was one of the most important work assigned to me

during internship. We, as interns used to do research work related to
different subject matters and provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003
by which I have studied some different things and concepts which I
never knew before such as the concept of Station Heat Rate,
guidelines of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission related to
tariff regulations for different periods related to Station Heat Rate,
blacklisting of tender, powers of chief electrical inspector etc.
Moreover, I have also researched about Section 34 of the Arbitration
and Conciliation ACT, 1996, guidelines for suo moto impleadment,
parties to the civil suit etc.
 Attending courtroom proceedings- This was also one of the important
task assigned during internship to visit appellate electricity tribunals
when the matter is listed before the court for better understanding of
the courtroom procedure and mannerism being followed there.
 Read various cases- While doing internship, I have also read various
cases which helped me in better understanding of law.

Learning during Internship

While doing internship I have learned some important things which
will be helpful for me in the future which are:-
 Learnt Court Manners- It was one of the important learning
that I have learned during the internship as there is a strict
procedure being followed in the courtrooms in a very
systematic manner.
 Exploring the different area of The Electricity Act, 2003-
Through this internship, I got the opportunity to study some
concepts and provisions related to the Electricity Act, 2003
which helped me knowing a different field of law.
 Understanding the way how the court proceedings actually
happen- This was one of my primary objective in order to do
internship in the courtroom. It is very essential for a law
student to understand the way how court proceedings actually
take place in the court of law in order to understand the better
practical applicability of laws in the society.

 Researching- This internship has helped me improving my

researching skills and this will be one of my biggest lerning
from this internship as all the seniors and mentors in the law
firm used to guide me related to efficiency of the research
work and how to approach any research problem.

 Meeting the deadlines everytime- It is also one of the

important thing which I have learned during the internship.
Meeting the deadlines is very essential in every sphere
whether you are working in any NGO or under any advocate
as it will help us in becoming the better professionals and will
play a key role in teaching professionalism.

Overall Experience:-
I would say, this internship has proved to be a good internship
for me in terms of learning, understanding of a new domain
and area of law related to the Electricity Act, 2003 and some
provisions related to the Code of Civil Procedure and
Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 which I have not
studied earlier in college.
