2. Talismanic Elementals, Enochian Seniors and the 28 Mansions of the Moon

This document contains the symbols, correspondences and qualities of the 28 Talismanic
Elementals. The Talismanic Elementals are associated with the 28 Enochian Seniors in the Enochian
system of magick and the 28 Mansions of the Moon and all of their correspondences. All of these
associated qualities represent the combination of planets and elements, or signs of the zodiac. Thus
these magickal objects contain both the talismanic qualities of the seven planets of antiquity, also
known as the planetary intelligences, and the elemental qualities of the four Elements or twelve
Zodiacal Signs.

Talismanic Elementals are not necessarily a group of spirits or entities that a magician invokes,
although they do have spirits and entities within their correspondences. They are magickal constructs
or hybridizations created by the magician, and so they are like the 16 Elementals. However, they
represent a different and more advanced kind of structure than Elementals. Instead of qualifying a
base element with an element as is done with Elementals, the qualifier for a Talismanic Elemental
is a planetary intelligence. Since there are seven planetary intelligences and four elements within
this table, the product of element and planet produces a matrix of 28 items, called Talismanic
Elementals. Whereas the Elementals produce emotional based energies, the Talismanic Elementals
produce mental constructs. Talismanic Elementals use the properties of the planetary intelligence
as an archetype of consciousness and combine it with the emotional energies of the element to
produce a kind of impassioned ideal, one that affects the higher faculties of both the mind and the
spirit. So the seven planets actually transmute the emotional qualities of the four base elements. The
resultant combination produces a magickal object that is perpetually regenerating and emanating its
magickal influence, i.e., a talisman. A Talismanic Elemental, therefore, creates an “aura” of potency
that can be used to influence and transform its target or anything that is within its field of influence.
In contrast, an Elemental is used to charge a thing or person at the moment of its creation, and once
used, is no longer active.

The purpose for generating a Talismanic Elemental is to establish a perpetually charged conscious
archetype. Such a magickal object is easily adapted for use in infusing talismans, amulets and other
types of power objects with an enduring magickal quality or “field”. The force and intelligence of
a Talismanic Elemental may also be used to directly influence the magician, causing a greater level
of psychic empowerment than would be experienced with an Elemental. Because of the dynamic
nature of the qualities associated with a Talismanic Elemental, a potent psychic transformation will
occur when one is exposed to its influence, irregardless of whether one is directly exposed or
influenced through a surrogate or talismanic device. This is due to the telesma or consecrated,
charged and psychically contagious nature of the Talismanic Elemental. Through the use of this
psychologically charged power, the magician may perform a type of magickal therapy, resonating

and transforming existing complexes within his unconscious mind. This causes the magician to
redefine himself, by building up a stronger self definition through the amplification and resolution
of internal mental qualities that are at a deficit or negatively activated within his unconscious mind.
Conversely, a magician may intensify the negative qualities already resident in a person and
situation, and thereby stimulate negative consequences and harmful destructive effects. The latter
operation is, of course, a form of a curse.

Whereas the Elemental establishes a bridge between the etheric level and the lower astral levels of
conscious being, which represents a very potent mechanism of emotional feelings and its effects,
the Talismanic Elemental establishes a direct connection between the etheric and the
spiritual-archetypal levels of conscious being. A Talismanic Elemental produces an infusion of the
mental transforming powers of the Universal Mind and projects it into the conscious and
unconscious realms of the magician, altering everything within its reach. This established conduit
between the etheric and spiritual domains allows for the direct transmutation of physical energies
and matter by the transformative powers of the Spiritual plane, causing profound realizations that
reverberate throughout one’s being. This fact succinctly explains why talismans and amulets, when
they are charged with a Talismanic Elemental and properly used, are so effective in altering and
impacting the individuals who wield them. So one can easily see that the use of such magickal
“charms” is not at all dictated by superstition, and that a powerful occult principle is truly activated
when one properly constructs and charges such a magickal object.

A talisman or an amulet is nothing more or less than a magickal symbol of conscious transformation
itself. Yet a talisman or amulet has much more impact on the bearer of such a device than a simple
psychological crutch used to improve one’s confidence or stimulate one’s motivations, the
proverbial rabbit’s foot. In addition, the terms amulet and talisman are operationally defined as the
following: An amulet is a specific magickal device or “power” object used to protect one from some
kind of accident or negative influence; A talisman is used to attract or promote some kind of
magickal effect that will aid and assist the bearer. Thus an amulet is used to “ward” or protect a
person from “evil” influences or events, and a talisman is used to attract and promote positive
influences or events.

A Talismanic Elemental consists of a specific planetary intelligence, and so it is subject to the rules
associated with any operation that uses planetary magick. The rite or operation that is so deployed
is usually performed during a specific day of the week, planetary hour and phase of the Moon. This
is because planetary intelligences are not active at all times, but only at certain and very specific
times. The day of the week is important since they are governed by a planet, the planetary hour is
most definitely used, and the Lunar Mansion can also be consulted, determining the day of the
month or phase of the Moon that the operation can be best accomplished. Certain planets are more
active during the day and others are more active during the night; but since talismanic magick
incorporates symbolic psychic qualities into the production of a “psychic energy field”, the operation
of producing a talisman is best performed late at night when most people are retired for the evening
or asleep. This is the time of day when the psychic qualities of the mental environment are quiescent,
and so there is little that could cause any interference with a talismanic operation.

Order of the Gnostic Star Series - Grimoire 1-1-2

In addition to the matrix of 28 qualities that constitute the Talismanic Elementals, we should also
consider the analogy of the 28 Mansions of the Moon and all of their correspondences. Recent
research has indicated that both categories are one and the same, and so there is a direct correlation
between them. The Mansions of the Moon were used to determine the lunar position or station of
lunar influence, and identify the most auspicious time for the construction and charging of talismans
and amulets. The Lunar Mansions could also be used for deploying cursing mechanisms, using the
negative qualities of that same lunar station.

The magickal use of the Lunar Mansions for specific talismanic workings goes back to late
antiquity, and was probably developed in Alexandria as a product of Greco-Egyptian-Chaldean
magickal fusion. Certainly, talismanic magick had existed for a very long time, and forms of Lunar
Astrology have their sources in ancient India and ancient Chaldea. The current system was derived
from Ptolemaic Astrological magick and further developed by Arab astrological magicians.
However, magicians today would use the Mansions of the Moon in conjunction to the Talismanic
Elementals to further define a talismanic operation with additional correspondences, and also
specifically determine when that operation is to be performed.

To use the positive aspects of the Mansion, one would perform the operation when the Moon
appeared in that specific Mansion and was in its waxing phase. Conversely, the negative aspects,
used for creating curses or undoing evil spells, would be performed when the Moon was waning in
that specific Mansion. So, to use the matrix of both planet, element and Lunar Mansion, one would
perform the rite to generate a Talismanic Elemental during a specific planetary day, hour and Lunar
Mansion, paying heed to whether the Moon was either waxing or waning as it entered that station.

All magickal operations are thematic in that they have a very deliberate objective to achieve and the
steps to achieve it, and talismanic magick is even more tightly bound by the object of its desire, the
magickal link. The 28 Talismanic Elementals with their corresponding 28 Mansions of the Moon
cover the spectrum of human needs and desires, and the magician only needs to examine them to
find the right talismanic working to fulfill the requirements for a specific working. In addition to
specifying the various qualities, there are also spiritual entities, the Enochian Seniors, the Angelic
Rulers, energy colors, incense or herbs, magickal or talismanic images, directions for the
construction of the talisman, astrological and planetary correspondences, as well as the specific
period of degrees that the Moon should be residing in when the magician sets the magick circle and
locks the planetary hour. The magickal qualities for each talismanic operation has a positive and a
negative value, which is associated with the phase of the Moon - positive for the waxing Moon and
negative for the waning Moon. The magician is advised to consult an astrological ephemeris before
performing any work using the qualities of the Lunar Mansions, so that either the positive or
negative qualities are properly realized and not confused.

The following are the correspondences of the 28 Talismanic Elementals, arranged in Element order
rather than in Zodiacal order, which is the way that they are customarily ordered when associated
with the Mansions of the Moon. The correspondences consist of first the Planet and Element
combination, the name of the Enochian Senior, then the name of the Lunar Mansion and all of its
qualities and correspondences (Mansion Name and quality, Angelic Ruler, color, image, directions

for talisman construction, and waxing and waning qualities). There is also a short description of the
type of influence each Talismanic Elemental produces when utilized, and these accord precisely with
the Lunar Mansion. (For Lunar Mansion information, I have relied heavily on Nigel Jackson, and
his book, Celestial Magic.)

Method of Determining the Mansion of the Moon:

This is how to choose a specific Lunar Mansion and Talismanic Elemental. Suppose I want to
generate a basic prosperity and mental amplification rite, and I would prefer an earth based quality.
I would like to produce this talisman in the next month (March 2006), since I am not inclined to wait
for several months for the available mansion to appear dung a waxing moon. This is because during
the period of a waxing moon, only 16 mansions are actually available, as one can see demonstrated
below. If you have pre-selected a specific mansion, you might have to wait months before it appears
within the list of those available, since the list of available mansions is incremented and de-
incremented by one consecutive zodiacal sign (or 2 to 3 mansions) each month.

Keep in mind that the moon travels through the zodiac around 13 degrees a day, and therefore, its
speed is approximately 32 minutes of a degree per hour. That is faster than any of the other planets.
A lunar mansion is approximately 12 degrees and 51 minutes, representing a “station” or place
where the moon resides for a single day.

The first step is to find out the available lunar mansions for a given period of the waxing phase of
the Moon. In our instance above, the Moon begins to wax on Feb. 26, around 6:32 PM CST, in the
sign of Aquarius (9 degrees, 16 minutes), and then reaches full moon on March 14, at around 5:57
PM CST, in the sign of Virgo (24 degrees, 15 minutes). So, the range of possibilities for that period
of the waxing moon is from Aquarius through Virgo, or roughly, Mansions 25 through 28, and 1
through 14, although the Moon turns to waning in the 14th Mansion, so it would have to be omitted.
The same is true for the 25th Mansion, as the Moon begins to wax in that Mansion, but when it
enters it, the Moon is waning. So the range of actual possibilities is Mansions 26 through 28, and
1through 13. You will also need to take into consideration the planetary day and the planetary hour
when performing this operation.

Based upon the above considerations, and the timing factors, I have decided on generating a
Talismanic Elemental for Sun of Earth on Saturday, March 4, 2006. The 5th Mansion of the Moon,
Al Hakah, which is associated with Sun of Earth, comes into force just before 6 pm that evening, and
remains in force until before 6 pm the next day. I would choose to use the hour of the Sun at night,
and the day of Saturday would be auspicious for any earth based working. I might even plan on
doing the working as the day passes into early Sunday, so to use the day of the Sun and the hour of
the Sun as well. I would have to look at how the planetary hours will play out for that day. Keep in
mind that the 24 planetary hours start from dawn of that day to an hour before dawn the next day.
All of these considerations, the lunar mansion, the planetary day and the planetary hour, must be
dealt with in order to ensure a successful working.

Also, it can be noted that you can generate any Talismanic Elemental during a given Lunar Mansion,
but then it becomes a hybrid - where you would have to combine the meanings of both into a single
quality. For this reason, I choose to keep everything simple, and always use the matching Mansion
of the Moon with the Talismanic Elemental.
