The purpose of my research paper was to answer the question “What effect, if any, does

social media have on the mental health of teens?” While this research paper is intended for my

classroom and professor, it actually should be information intended to reach the teenagers out

there that may be dealing with these mental health effects. As a teenager myself, I know when I

am not in school or studying, the largest part of my time is spent on my phone, connecting to

friends through a number of outlets, but a large part is through social media. I considered using

social media as another genre to reach these teens, but that seemed to be contrary to the point of

my research paper. Instead, I decided to use the genre that occupies the second most amount of

my free time, music.
